Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I am teaching a 2nd & 3rd grade class at out co-op and, after reading the thread here on keva planks, my husband suggested that it be about bridges and other interesting structures - with a hands-on component for the kids to try to build the structure we've studied. Love the idea! But I'm definitely not an engineer or architect, so I'm not sure where to start preparing for this class. Any ideas out there? Thanks!

I have not read this book, but I taught a co-op class on skyscrapers using its companion volume.

Perfect! Fabulous! I picked this book up at our library today, and it is just the thing. Thank you, Nancy!

I'm glad you got it, Kiera. I was going to second Nancy's rec. of that Kaleidoscope Kids books series. They all have very good hands-on ideas. We have enjoyed that Bridges one very much.

I also wanted to add a recommendation for David Macaulay's book, Building Big, which includes a couple big bridge projects and the Building Big: Bridges dvd that goes with it. Great resource for the mechanics of building.

There are also quite a few wonderful picture books on some of the most amazing bridges form history - Brooklyn Bridge, Golden Gate Bridge. I'll link those when we open back up.
