Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I hope this forum is close enough to be appropriate for this discussion

I was curious about how each of us incorporates exercise or "life-long sports" into our homeschool days. We have recently started using one of the exercise programs for the Wii (I use the controls, the kids follow along) but I'm looking for more ideas.

I know many of you have large families so you may find yourself in a situation similar to ours (though I have only four right now) that we cannot afford classes or team sports for every child. Though I don't regret losing half my weekends to soccer games I do want them to have some experiences with new activities. What solutions have you found in this regard?

Also, my oldest - 7yo son - has mild/moderate Autism (PDD-NOS) so he has some special limitations concerning what he's able to do successfully. He becomes discouraged SO easily and I really want to find an activity for him where he can learn at his own pace without the stress of winning or losing. I've considered some kind of martial arts for him, but again, it's rather expensive...

So, go ahead, share what you do!

well we do two sports.. lacrosse and swimming

we started out having to do a lot of talking about each person doing their best and not comparing to each other.

Now I find it one of the BEST sports for a large family.

Each competes in their own age level but the competition is for all levels at the same time.. so everyone old enough/proficient enough is at the same pool, the same weekend for competitions. I LOVE that. Where else can you camp on on the bleaches to watch all your kids participate without having to change fields or go on different days or such?

(actually I think martial arts would be similiar?)

As for cost.. we plan that out of the yearly budget and I set aside the money each year until needed.

I'm all off kilter this year because of having a baby in September. But we do like going on walks/hikes as a family.

And for myself I'm really wanting to start a T-Tapp program.. maybe get the kids doing it with me.. but it's for ME.. the research I've done on it seems like it would HELP my knees and it would help me lose some weight but more importantly it would help me tone muscle.. I'm really less concerned with weight than somewhat how thin I am but more how I feel.. and I can tell that most of my not feeling "right" is from lack of muscle tone (all those babies are worth it though) and my knees hurting.

Oh and I understand that my son's boy scout troop is going to be working on the merit badge for personal fitness and that includes putting together an exercise plan.. and following it! this could be good
