Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I've been trying to plan for my ds high school science. He is starting 9th grade in the fall. I came across a few things suggesting that physics first is a good idea. A very prestigious and incredibly expensive school in our area is doing physics first.

They progress from Physics to Chemistry and then Biology. Senior year offers a number of more advanced courses.

Does anyone have experience progressing in this manner? Has anyone used Paul Hewitt's Conceptual Physics text? It seems to be light on the math which is needed for a 9th grade physics student.

Thank you,
jenn

I would imagine that it depends how much math you have covered and how much you plan on having in your physics. The typical order of Biology, Chemistry, and then Physics has mostly to do with students learning the geometry, advanced algebra, trig, and even calculus that can then be readily applied to Physics. If you plan on teaching Physics concepts without the math then I wouldn't think the order matters.

As of now we're planning on doing that same order Jenn.   We'll be using Apologia physics in 9th.   My dd has enough math, so that will be fine.   She needs another year of math before being ready for Saxon physics, so we may do that in the future as a math class - not sure at this point.
