Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Gee, I have never been to this part of the forum! Can you guess science is not my first love. LOL!

I am looking to build my library for my younger kids and wanted recommendations for good, engaging science books (readers and picture books) that would be worth having around both for the little ones to browse through and the older ones to pick up some nuggets of information.

We have a huge assortment of field guides and the Christian Liberty Nature Readers, but I wanted something for the 6 and under crowd especially.

I am making a Rainbow Resource shopping list and they have so many science readers that I don't know what is twaddle and what is worth having!

Thanks everyone!

My favorite science resource for kids that age is Your Big Backyard magazine, put out by the
national Wildlife Federation. I highly recommend it.Your Big Backyard
It has beautiful photos, stories and activities. My dc all loved to see it come in the mail each month.

Molly, check Wild Monthly, where I try to list great books for younger kids. Also, I am slowly building up a page for elementary science, but I am way behind, and so it is woefully incomplete.

The problem with so many "nature" books is that they are twaddley. Ugh! Careful!

For magazines, we second Your Big Backyard, and my 4 yo enjoys Animal Baby. Also good are Zoobooks.

For books, we like the Let's Read and Find Out series. We also use a lot of the Dover coloring books.

Hope that helps .

Dawn,
thanks for the recommendation for the Let's Read and Find out. That is the series that I had picked out of the Rainbow resource catalog, they say it it their favorite too.

MacBeth, thanks for the link, I will check it out thoroughly tonight. By the way, since I am woefully behind in EVERYTHING I will cut you some slack!

I hate reading twaddle to them, but just don't have time to hang out in a bookstore previewing books. Wouldn't that be nice?!
