Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I don't know if any of you have read any of his books or been to his website, but I thought I would include his website. We looked through it yesterday after reading a few of his books we picked up from the library and it has some neat things. http://www.jimarnosky.com

We did a whole unit on Arnosky last year for science class for my littles. His Crinkleroot books are the best! We had so much fun with the study. He's got one, Drawing from Nature that's OOP but worth finding if you can. It's a great way to get the kids doing nature drawings. Also, Field Trips: Bug Hunting, Animal Tracking, Bird Watching, Shore Walking\ is also a good nature study type of book.....

He's one of our favorites!

"Out of print" makes me crazy, but...while checking on book links for my newsletter, I discovered that though Sketching Outdoors in Winter is OOP, there are 23 used copies available, starting at $1.75 . This book, like many of his books, is a gem.

We really enjoy the Arnosky books; thanks for the link to his website!

There is a nice Reading Rainbow episode on Jim Arnosky and his book Racoons and Ripe Corn. LaVar Burton interviews Mr. Arnosky on his property and they watch for beavers (if memory serves!).

My library has a copy of this, so maybe yours will too

We love Jim Arnosky, too! My 3yo can spot an Arnosky book from 10 feet away in the library ....

He is a top author in our home. He was recommended by our librarian after seeing how many animal books we take out on a regular basis.

I didn't think to look for his website. Thanks! We are going to check that out today.

I'm bringing an old thread back to life. Nature Journals has been mentioning some of Jim Arnosky books. I have two questions related to his books:

1) What are the titles for his drawing books?

Drawing from Nature
Sketching Outdoors in Winter

Any others?

2) I'm trying to get together some books for our upcoming Beach trip this summer. I noticed two titles:

Field Trips: Bug Hunting, Animal Tracking, Bird Watching, Shore Walking

Beach Combing

Are there any more?
And would I find some useful information for a 3 year old?

Thanks for any help.

Jenn --

The Drawing from Nature was based on a PBS series Arnosky did -- you might want to try and find the videos....I like this the best as it really shows you how to draw while out in nature -- a skill I'm still trying to develop

Drawing Life in Motion

Following the Coast (East coast salt marshes) might be useful on your beach trip.

For a three year old? Take a pale and shovel.

And thanks for the website, Lisa! We LOVE Jim Arnosky, but I'd never thought to look for him online. I guess in this modern age, I should assume that everyone has a website, instead of assuming otherwise!

Beach Combing

Jenn, Beach Combing is my four year old son's favorite book, so you little guy would probably like it too.

MacBeth has quite a few Arnosky books listed at her site. Even if he isn't ready for all of them at age 3, it might be worth starting a collection.

I guess I should clarify a bit. I'm looking at the books 3 different ways: 1) he can enjoy 2) he will grow into, and I can give him glimpses and 3) information me for me to glean and translate to him.

#3 was how I was thinking of for the beach. I'm clueless on nature study and journaling. I'm nervous about drawing, so all our education starts with Mommy!

Thanks for all the advice, and I'll check out MacBeth's lists.

I did order from Amazon one of the out of print Sketching Outdoors in Winter, and Drawing From Nature, two of his books I've wanted for a long time now. I figured that I really should order them while I can still. I got them at a pretty good price!
