Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Yesterday, the kids and I made bagel bird feeders with peanut butter and black sunflower seeds. My dad said that several birds are crazy about these seeds, but I have yet to see a *bird* come to any of our feeders, including the squirrel-proof one.

This morning, a fat and hungry squirrel (we're just going to assume it's a boy all the way through the post) nabbed *all* of our bagel feeders. We couldn't believe it! Squirrels don't care if a whole family stands at a window 3 feet away watching them steal right out from under your nose (they don't care for my dog, however ). He couldn't possibly have taken all (was it four or six? I lost count) of them to eat himself. Was he feeding a fledgling family? Was he possibly storing them for next winter? I don't think they run in herds ~ or would you call that a *posse* of squirrels? ~ where one hunts up and brings back the grub. Or do they, when the finding is good, gather up as much as they can whenever they can find it and store it until they're hungry? This would be my best guess. Is anyone out there more educated about the antics of squirrels than I am?

Oh, and one other thing. He was twitching his tail vehemently at one time when he couldn't get an especially tricky bagel off the string on which my husband had strung them. Was he angry? We were laughing at him because sometimes he twitched so hard it looked as though he was going to lose his balance. Of course a squirrel never does. One time as we watched, he stretched himself all the way down our wooden fence so that only his toes held him onto the top of the fence. Strange thing was, his toes had to flip out the opposite way we think of hanging onto things with our toes (in other words, his stomach was closest to the fence upside down, if you can picture that) to allow him that hanging on position. It amazes me what God's creatures, even such common ones, can do.

Sorry I don't know the answer to your questions.

I should have known when I saw the title of your post it would be about squirrels. We rarely look out to see a squirrel that he doesn't have some edible contraband in his paws. And yes, they're all fat.
