Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

For the month of December I plan on revolving our science lessons around cooking since there is generally so much cooking that we do (cookies, fudge, candy, as well as winter type comfort foods). Does anyone know of any good resources off hand (books or online) that could give me some lesson ideas. I'm looking for stuff similar to "yeast makes bread rise and this is what yeast is and here is an experiment (yeast in bottle with balloon on top to show it is alive) and we will cook bread to use it in real life".

I started to search on the web, but thought maybe some of you resourceful people already have ideas and I could save some time.

Thanks so much!!!

Jackie -- my now-17yod really wanted to do Food Science for a while so we got her lots of great books (some you'll read for background and some the kiddoes can use) ...

The best for reference is: Cookwise
On Food and Cooking

For the kids:
What Einstein Told His Cook
The Healthy Body Cook
The Science Chef
The New Kitchen Science
Cooking Wizardry for Kids

Thanks a bunch, Mary! They look great and our library system has several of them. You saved me lots of time. I appreciate it!
