Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

It was on the fence outside by our breakfast table and it sat there for over an hour despite the baby shrieking and pounding on the window and the flashing of our camera.

We have lived in the apt. for 2 yrs and in oregon for 8 and it was the first we have seen.

We are still not sure if it was even supposed to be around here -when we id'd it on the computer it kept saying california.

anyone know what the range is?

Maggie

I love the sound of the mourning dove!
It's a sound I associate with a beautiful morning -- Maggie, it seems like your family enjoyed a wonderful morning.

Wow! I take them for granted. I'm looking out the window right now and there are about 20 in my yard happily eating bugs.

I do love them. When we buried our son 9 years ago, we were on our way to the cemetery from the Mass and the most lovely dove seemed to be waiting for us. He had been sitting right where we were to bury our little Matthew and as we pulled up he flew straight up and I followed him until I lost him in the sunlight. It was an extraordinary experience for me. I was moved beyond words - it still moves me.

Anyway, back to your original question Maggie...I don't know their range, but I'm blessed with several and wish I could send you a few with their lovely mournful cry. So glad you finally saw one! Maybe that means there will be more sightings soon!
