Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

LOL...we did general science last year and will do botany next....I am still looking! I am definitely using MacBeth's ideas. We are currently on a cooking science rabbit trail so I will start botany soon. I just wanted to make sure that I cover all my bases. This High School thing is a little daunting to me

After having one of my older children decide to major in the sciences after we had been going on another path in high school, I decided to cover the material in a more traditional way regardless of their current interests. I use a textbook with tests, but use only about 70% of the chapters. I keep them thinking by adding biographies, main lesson book activities and fieldwork. We use science in high school as one way to prepare them for taking traditional tests in college, so I use Abeka Biology, which I was given a few years ago. It is extremely well illustrated and the text, with the subheadings and bold print, is similar to what they will find in college. It is very dry and intense in spots, so I wouldn’t recommend using the entire text. We only spend 12 weeks on Botany because they have already spent years doing nature notebooks and field studies. Some of the naturalists and botanists they read about include-Edith Holden, Bartram family, Luther Burbank and Carl Linnaeus. Except for the Holden biography, all of the books are borrowed from the library. I also have them include information in their lesson book about herbal remedies. I would love to hear what books others use as I’m always interested in improving these plans.
