Each of my boys has gone through the "I want a bow and arrow" stage, only to be frustrated by cheap toys and their mother who didn't know how to make one that "worked." Any suggestions? I've googled with no luck. Thanks!
Love,

You might be interested in The Dangerous Book for Boys....you may not want to just hand this over to your boys to read though, there's a "what you need to know about girls" chapter in there. If your not interested in purchasing it, PM me and I'd be happy to scan the instructions for you and email it to you.

Update: I realized that we didn't have that book, we have the one for girls. I went looking for another similar book, couldn't find it.
Solution: Wait for 9yo brother to return home from trip to Boston and have him make one from scraps in the garage in about 10 minutes! He used a metal strip from an old filing system, string, lots of duct tape, and a tinker toy plus some other plastic building toy piece to make the arrow. Our 3yo couldn't be happier because it really looks like a bow and arrow and shoots!
Love,

Angie, my kids got Hearthsong bows when they were little, and promptly began to break window panes.
When we were kids, before there were "real" bows and arrows for little folks, we made our own with forsythia and yarn. They worked really well. I'm betting forsythia is a rare bit of flora in AZ!

Forsythia what? Thank goodness, nothing has been broken in my home with the weapon...yet.
Much more clever than Mom for sure .
He's still playing with it and the play is becoming more elaborate. Love it!
Love,
