Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

The robins nesting in our front door wreath are starting to hatch. Mother Robin lost one egg, it appears. We had a hatchling in the nest yesterday, and have two hatchlings today. Unfortunately, one of the babies has fallen out of the nest and is wedged into the spaces in the front door mat (it looks something like this).

I opened the door to check for packages , and Mother Robin voiced her opinion of me. Oh poor baby...what should I do?

I'd put it back in the nest, quickly, gently and with as little fuss and commotion as possible.

Should I use my hands, or maybe a spatula? I don't want to hurt it.

I wonder how I'm going to get it out of the door mat. Hmmm.

Well, I would think your hands would be the most gentle way of doing it.
Can you lift the doormat away from the bird? Then pick it up and put it in the nest?

Baby returned to nest. I used two soup spoons to scoop him up. I don't think he's going to make it. My daughter informed me 'when baby birds fall out of the nest, they perish and die.' She's planning a funeral and building a cross out of craft sticks now. The circle of life...

Oh my, my daughter is saying a prayer for the baby birdie in front of our Divine Mercy picture.

I think I'm going to cry!

Really young ones like that might not make it after a fall. We did have one of ours fall from the nest this year - but he was about 9 days old at the time, getting closer to fledging anyway and he did fine when we put him back. We did lose two though to a Blue Jay, we think - not sure didn't see it but some evidence. It's a tough life for baby birds. Praying for your daughter and the birdie.
