Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Not sure if I should put this under Early Childhood but...

I have this seed puzzle from Alison's montessori . We've been reading little life of seed books and getting ready to plant seeds, etc. We've traced this puzzle and are ready to label the parts of the seed... but I'm not sure that I have it right?!??!

All other seed nomenclature that I've looked to buy don't match this puzzle (including Montessori Lori on this board).

Could someone go to Alison's and check me??

I *think* the purple is the seed coat (or testa). The two big yellow pieces are the cotyldeons (two for a dicot seed). The orange piece hanging down is the radicle or root.

Here's where I'm iffy:

Is the green one of the embryo leaves?
What is the orange piece INSIDE the seed?
What is the yellow piece with the black lines in it (at the top)?

You have the purple (seed coat), orange (radicle) and yellow( cotyledons ) right. The green piece is the plumule. The orange piece inside is just part of the radicle, showing that it originates inside the seed coat. The yellow piece with the black lines is just stupid.I don't know why they made it a separate piece. The black lines are just where the two cotyledons come together. Unless they are trying to say it is the embryonic axis, in which case, the plumule should be moved up so you can see both the epicotyl and hypocotyl. That part was poorly designed, I think.I am not labeling that part as I think it is confusing, and I am simply telling my kids that piece just shows the place where the two cotyledons join the embryonic axis.
Does that help at all?

Theresa -- yes thank you!! I have to admit that the piece with the lines had me completely confused and that's what made me wonder the rest!! I like your explanation.
