We have an astronomy curse. Every single time some cool thing happens, it's raining or foggy. We have snow predicted for tomorrow night.
I hope someone else gets to see it. Eclipses are way cool.

In a solar eclipse, the light of the sun is blocked as the moon moves between the sun and the earth. In a lunar eclipse, the light of the sun, which is reflected off the moon, making the moon "shine", is blocked by the earth's shadow.
Both are temporary.
You should not look at a solar eclipse (the sun is still quite powerful), but you can watch an entire lunar eclipse.

We are in VA. The eclipse is very visible and awesome. The next total lunar eclipse will be in December 2010. Now to get all the kids to bed...

Oh, the clouds and snow have vanished!!!! We can see it so well!!!
Poor dh is too tired to stay up for the whole thing, but he did get to see it. I'm very happy that we got to see this one. Who knows where we will be in 2010?

We saw the eclipse perfectly here- right in the middle of the downtown from our small group meeting. It was awesome....
(through glass that is- it is desperately cold here.)

We had a perfect view tonight leaving church. The kids thought it was cool. I wish I would have had my camera with me.

The clouds cleared perfectly for us to see the beginning all the way to totality! So much fun! Pictures here because I have yet to figure out how to upload them to the Forum.

Awesome pictures, Matilda! We too were happy to get to see it. Our neighbors were out with a telescope. A fun night--one when I was very grateful for the blessing of home schooling and not having to get up early tomorrow

We ran over to my parents house and watched it there. It was so neat to just sit at the back door wall and actually watch it happen! Of course, now we have to do a unit on the solar system because so many questions popped up last night and I didn't have answers to half of them! Yikes! Off to the library now.
Blessings,
Betsie

It was 0 degrees plus a wind chill here last night. We had to go outside to see the moon because it was directly over the house- so we would run out-look up-run in-get warm-and repeat and repeat and repeat. We all thought it was awesome!

We were lucky to get a brief window in a hazy evening, and meet some friends on the marsh for viewing.
Plus, the friends brought cocoa and scones! It was perfect, though we did not stay long with the temps nice and low
...!
