Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Ever since the Discovery channel aired their 3 (or was it 4) part series on the Galapagos islands, my children (both the 5.5 and 3 year old)have been fascinated by it. They continue to ask me to "learn about" the Galapagos.

While I have certainly followed a few unit studies, I have never actually gone through the process of putting one together.

Would you care to help? Pretty please?

I suppose the obvious would be to study weather? - tides
Animal life - but how? the topic is so broad I feel overwhelmed trying to simplify it.
Same goes for the plant life

Of course, history - Darwin and his studies there.

Thanks,
Christine

No unit study ideas, but here is a book suggestion:

We read parts of this before our visit to Australia Zoo - and then found that the tortoise had actually died the year before .......but it tells about the travels of the tortoise, how they looked after it etc. It's quite long so we just read parts of it.

Title Darwin's tortoise : the amazing true story of Harriet, the world's oldest living creature / Robin Stewart ; illustrated by Anna Crichton.

ETA Which parts were they most interested? Start from there....get some books.....they will often spark some other ideas.

Anyone else have any resources to recommend on this topic?
My ds is very taken with these islands right now. He's amazed that iguanas can swim in the ocean... we watched a Youtube clip of that and his eyes about fell out of his head ... then he had to take all the plastic iguanas and lizards he has into the bath tub that night...
