The kids and I just came inside (10:50eastern time) after spending 45 minutes on blankets in the backyard watching for stars". We saw three great big meteors and many small ones. We could even see tails on the big ones. It was spectacular!! They say the peak of the Persiad meteor shower is tomorrow night, and much later than we headed out, so we will certainly be heading back out tomorrow.

Thanks for the heads up, Joann. We'd better nap this afternoon so we can stay up late and enjoy the meteors!
Peace,
Nancy

Spotty rainy clouds here last night though I did see one on Thursday or Friday night. Anyone else see anything spectacular?

We looked between 9 and 10 last night, but never saw any. Lots of bats, though!

Clear and beautiful here. We saw several in the half hour we were out - even with all our "light pollution" here in the city. We keep saying that one of these years we need to be camping up in the mountains during this week to get a better view.
And yes, you can still them the next few nights. Last night was the peak but they are still around awhile.

We read that the best viewing was "just before dawn" which here was supposed to be 6:15. We set the alarm for 4:30, drove about 20 minutes to a nice, dark, secluded place out of town and watched till about 6:00. I had read that at peak (just b/f dawn) we'd see around 1/minute or more but we didn't see that many; more like 2 or so every few minutes. Still, it was very nice . . . quite lovely. We came back home and went right back to bed and now the day's kind of a wash but what a nice viewing!
