Can anyone recommend a good rock tumbler ? I know to stay away from the cheap toy types, but other than that, I don't have any idea what I'm looking for. How loud are they really ?
Blessings,

I have this one, and if there had been 45 mixed reviews when I bought it, I probably would have bought a higher end machine...but, it has worked unfailingly for a couple of years now, and for the price, it's perfect.
Noise? We plugged it into the farthest corner of our unfinished cellar. Dh took a look down after three weeks, and said, "You know that noise?" "What noise?" I asked innocently. "That NOISE in the cellar. Did you know that we have a rock tumbler?" "Yes, dear."
It makes a constant droning gritty sound. It needs to work 'round the clock for about a month.
It makes very pretty polished stones.

Ditto what MacBeth said: very noisy, but pretty stones!
Oh, and don't do what dh did, in his attempt to help... he covered in with a piece of tubing covered in old carpet, to help drown out the noise. It overheated, and after that, tended to be sluggish, starting and stopping. He was quite apologetic..

Thanks, MacBeth and Tami ! I am a bit concerned about the noise. We don't have a basement, garage, cellar, attic, back closets - military housing, my opportunity to grow in grace . I could put one in our laundry room - it's outside ( another opportunity to grow in grace) but the neighbors might complain. Maybe my husband could take it to the hanger. Surely a rock tumbler is not louder than a helicopter
