Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Hey everyone....

I could just be lifted up in prayer today....dh is gone - almost 3 weeks and I'm stressing out....

I'm not sure when he'll be home, his truck has broken down and he's in Utah, $$ is tight and I haven't had a break. I'm trying to not be uptight and anxious....

But......my anxiety is rising....I want my dh home...we miss him so much....and he wants to be home...

So, maybe this is just a pity-party - but I could use a break....what do you do when you can't get a break? I have been going to the park and walking while the kids play but I feel the weight of doing everything alone...

Thanks in advance....

Hey Maria,

I'll be praying for you and offering up my sufferings (especially my frustration in dealing w/ my 7yod...she's having a BAD day!) today.

My dh isn't home in the evenings b/c he works 2nd shift. Not the same as your situation, as we get to see him in the mornings and he's able to help by going grocery shopping and catching up on the dishes...but dealing w/ tired and cranky kids by yourself in the evenings is no easy task.

I've set the kids in front of a video to get a few minutes of peace to myself.

Not having a break is hard. I don't know what advice to give you, as I do not handle that cross very well. I have a very supportive mother-in-law that I can call when I'm at the end of my rope...she's taken the kids for a few hours before so I can pull myself together. But if I didn't have her, I'm not sure what I'd do.

I'll be praying for you today, anyway...I know from experience that the prayers of the women on this forum are very efficacious. Hang in there!

Dawn

Prayers headed your way. I know how hard it is to cope alone, and how strongly you pin your hopes on dh's return date.

Things I do to cope, especially when delays occur...

Plan a special event for when dh comes home (sometimes I learn to cook something new that I know he'll enjoy, or bake his favorite bread);

Go to the library (with kids, I know ) and find a book I'll really enjoy, such as a saint book or good biography or cookbook;

Have a family movie night with the kids...get a funny movie, lots of popcorn and a huge blanket we all can huddle together under...it's fun!

Get joke books for your kids from the library...while they are laughing their heads off, you'll have a minute to catch up on something or read or pray or...???

Another fun thing to check out from the library is old magazine issues; they usually have Zoobooks and other good quality kid magazines, and nice grownup ones too. (I was going to say "adult," but it didn't come out quite the way I intended! )

Oh, Maria, I'm so sorry. Prayers for you all. I don't do well with a couple of nights alone. I try to focus on the fact that I am lucky not to be alone all of the time or really long periods (like months or a year). It's really hard when you are spent, but it's good to get perspective. And I'm a whiner, Maria, so I know of what I speak! Prayers for dh's safe return, too!

Praying Maria. If you were clsoe by I'd invite your kids over and take you out to tea at my favorite local place (we'd let dh and the older kids stay here and play with the children. )

Prayers for you, Maria!
My husband always reminds me that several of my sil's husbands are gone for days or weeks at a time and we may have to make that sacrifice and some point. I say, OK, Sweetie, whatever you think is best, but in my heart I'm saying, NOOOOO! Don't LEAAAAAAAAAAAAVE me!
Prayers and hugs, and hopes that he'll be home very soon!

Praying Maria. While I understand how your feeling, 10 days is the longest dh has been away from us.

Thank you all so very, very much. I took the kids to the park this morning where we had breakfast and I walked 1.5 - 2 miles while they played. I also prayed the Joyful Mysteries and the Chaplet of Divine Mercy - I think I just need a good cry to release the stress.

I get easily overwhelmed trying to do what I do - and keep the house order....in a small house, the clean laundry that I'm ready to fold feels like a mess as it waits for me on the couch.

I think I just want someone to share the burden with...and I think I'm getting caught up too much in thinking negatively - darn those negative tapes! How I wish I wasn't so much a perfectionist!

Anyway, I appreciate so much all of the prayers. And Michele, if I lived close, I'd so take you up on your offer.    And then, I'd learn to sew well, too!

to all of you! I think we'll clean up, have a late lunch and go to the library....
