Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I know that I'm new here but I'm going to ask anyway...

My sister phoned me this evening to tell me dad was in the hospital with double pneumonia again (he'd had a serious bout last summer). Later talks with my sister and mother as the evening progressed saw a change in diagnosis from pneumonia to probable end-stage emphysema. Mom asked me to come as soon as possible and said that he may not last the night. I live 2000 km (1200 miles) away and the soonest flight I could book means I won't arrive until tomorrow evening. The doctors are telling us that he may need to go on a respirator and that if he goes on he probably won't be coming off.

Please pray that I'll be able to see him one last time. Better yet, please pray that I've wasted money on the plane ticket and that he'll be wanting us to visit this summer!! His sister is supposed to be arriving from Denmark in 2 weeks for her first ever visit to Canada, please let him be able to see her again too.

Getting ready for tomorrow's flight...

Oh, Liz! I am so sorry. All of my prayers and sufferings are yours, and your dad's.

I am glad you asked........it is not about being "new" here or "old" here.........we are all just one happy and holy family...........you are just lately arrived, that's all.

Consider you and your family supported indefinitely in prayer, by THIS family.

Praying that the Holy Spirit be with you all on the great feast of Pentecost and that he grant you peace and a miracle.

THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR PRAYERS!!

I just got home this morning and thought I'd let you all know that my dad is still with us!!! He was much better when I arrived so I decided to head home Sunday night. Had to go by bus... took 29 hours and I'm beat. But I wanted to thank you all for your prayers before I take a rest.

May the Lord bless you all!

Hi all!

Sorry to resurrect an old thread but there is an interesting post script to this prayer request that I thought many here would find interesting...

First, we've just returned from a 6-week "vacation" visiting my parents. (It was supposed to be only two but I hit a deer while traveling over and our vehicle was stuck at the body shop for quite some time. Luckily, dh is a teacher who is on his summer break.) Dad had a good three weeks while we were there. On our 4th week visiting, he started to go downhill. While he already knew about the congestive heart failure. gout and emphysema, the confirmation of a preliminary diagnosis of lung cancer did him in. He passed away last week.

The interesting post script is this... during his last week of life, he told mom that he wanted to become a Catholic! I was shocked! While dad always considered his faith important, he was certainly not fond of catholicism to say the least! (I often wondered why he'd married a catholic woman and agreed that his children could be raised catholic.) He said that mom's strong faith is what convinced him to do it and I guess that he was too afraid to convert until it was almost too late...

Anyway, I thought I'd pass this on. For those of you struggling with friends and family members who've fallen away, don't despair! Keep praying and keep being an example of God's love and forgiveness and surprises like these may find you too!

And again, my thanks to all you prayer warriors!

Liz

Oh, Liz, I am so sorry about the loss of your father, and I will be praying for all of you. How beautiful that God gave your family and him such an incredible gift during the last week of his life. What a comfort it must be, especially to your mother.

Love, Alice

A beautiful story! How special that you were there with him those last weeks of his life, maybe thanks to the deer? Praise the Lord for his conversion! It gives me hope for some of my family members.
