Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I would greatly appreciate prayers for my ds who is going to make his First Reconciliation on Friday. He is understandably nervous, but well prepared.

Also, please pray for 2 boys in his CCD class (twins) who did not learn their prayers in time and will have to postpone their reconciliation until May. Only hearing this all through my ds, I'm not sure the situation was handled well. I suspect that the twins parents are the ones at the parent meeting who had to ask the priest to repeat which prayers the children needed to know (like the Our Father, Hail Mary and Glory Be) and wrote them down. Apparently, there was a chart showing which children learned their prayers and the class was going to have a party when everyone had learned them. These two boys are keeping the whole class from the party. It's upsetting the parents let their sons down by not teaching them these basic prayers earlier in their lives, and also upsetting that this was not handled with discretion in front of the other children.

Thanks...

Lorri, your son has our prayers! (Mine makes his at the end of the month. )

That is too bad about those boys. I don't think my parish is being as strict, although it was stressed (I attend every class) that the children know their prayers, particularly the Act of Contrition (shortened version).

I remember my first confession and many after. I was always so nervous! I will be praying for peace to awash your son and for this other family as well.

Praying, Lorri. I was just at a meeting for my son's 1st Confession last evening and had the opposite experience. Father was saying to not really use the word 'sin' and that if the kids weren't ready to make their first confession they could still make their first communion because they wouldn't be able to commit mortal sin at this age!! This from someone I consider a solid priest!

Thank you for the prayers. Ds' reconciliation went well. When he saw Father walk out, he dove for cover behind me! Made Father smile. Ds wants to do it again next week.

I'm reviving this post to ask for prayers for my 7-year-old, Stephen, who has his First Confession interview this Wednesday eve!

The interview is to see if he understands the sacrament. He'll make his first confession on January 24th, God willing!

Dawn, I'll keep your son in my prayers as well! Is he the one who just lost a tooth?

I'm glad to hear it went well, Lorri.

LOL Do you mean after the confession he saw Father & hid behind you?       Too cute!

Margaret, prayers for Stephen & his upcoming interview.
