Yesterday morning, Eileen and I were waiting quite a long time for the neurosurgeon. The nurse brought me a drink of water, apologizing for the delay and explaining that the newborn baby I had just been cooing at in the waiting room was going to need brain surgery--the doctor was at that very moment counseling her distraught parents. Needless to say, I did not begrudge them this time and offered a silent prayer at the outset of their ordeal.
My mind began to wander on the possibilities. I looked at Eileen, catching her ready smile and shuddering for an instant to think of what it would be like to receive grave news. Then I examined my feelings, marveling at the fact that, although I am a worrier by nature, I was entirely at peace.
A sign over the examing table proclaimed "Feel the Love." With time on my hands to ponder, I snickered a little bit at the secular message that was meant to provide comfort. It seemed so godless and empty to me.
All of a sudden it hit me. I thought about the hundred or so messages on the "prayers for baby's head" thread, the rosaries said and the prayers offered by faithfilled mothers across the country. That inexplicable calm and serenity I was feeling was the fruit of those fervent prayers. I was indeed FEELING THE LOVE.
May God bless all of you dear mothers--you blessed friends--the ones who promised to pray and the many who I know prayed even without commenting. You are a gift to me and my life, and you brought yet another worry to a happy conclusion for us. The neurologist, it ought to be noted, gave Eileen a clean bill of health, pronouncing her behavior neurologically "perfect" and those pesky plates in her skull within the range of "normal."
Your prayers and words of solace brought peace to my heart when I most needed it, and it is with a grateful, loving heart that I will offer up my First Saturday devotions today for all of you!

Thanks be to God!
To my untrained medical eye, but pretty well trained mom eye, her head looks perfect and perfectly adorable!

Alice,
So glad to hear it!
Prayers for the families who don't "feel the love" and have to face such scary news as the family you mentioned.

Thanks be to God that you & Eileen were "in the right place at the right time" to offer a prayer for that family.
And for Eileen's clean bill of health

Dear Alice,
What joyous news that your prayers for your precious Eileen were heard and answered - to the letter! Your witness is so inspiring - Thank you, dear Alice.
I love the gorgeous picture of that bubbly, content baby. Look at those little teeth on the bottom!
I will add the little baby who will have brain surgery to my prayer journal, too. We may never know the outcome of our prayers, but it is especially upon my heart to pray for those who have no one to pray for them.
Blessings,
