On Thursday as I was reading through all the other wonderful Thankful Thursday posts, I determined to write a better post for Thanksgiving week. I started really thinking about the things I am truly thankful for and the first thing I put on my list was:
Quote:
I am thankful that my oldest son, Johnathan, decided to serve our country by joining the US Army. I am even more thankful that he is doing so well. I am most thankful that the Army chose to send him to Kansas as opposed to Iraq; not because I don't believe in the cause but because of how dangerous it is. If he should be sent there I would support him 100% and I would pray a lot and worry a lot but I would accept it. God puts us all where we need to be when we need to be there. |

|
This morning Johnathan called from Ft. Irwin where he has been training for the past month to tell me that he is being deployed to Iraq in February.
I am filled with so many mixed emotions right now. I know that God has a plan and he is in control but it is SO hard to just let go and trust. I meant what I wrote and I believe it completely but it sure is easier said than done.
Please pray for my son and all those serving our country.
Blessings,
Krisann

Krisann,
My prayers are with you! My son has only been there a few months and I know the worries a mother puts herself through!!
I made sure he had a scapular and a Holy Face medal along with some holy water and oil. I also tell him (and so did our priest) anytime you see a priest grab him because where he is they are few available. He is in Baghdad and will have RR in March or April and I can't wait!!
So dear sister in Christ please know that I will pray for your son each day when I pray for mine and all other soldiers. May Christ and His Mother bring His peace into our worriesome mother's hearts

Krisann,
My brother has served two tours of duty in Iraq. Even though he isn't Catholic, we sent him off w/ lots of Scapulars and blessed medals! We also prayed to St. Michael's for him every day.
We still pray the St. Michael prayer every day, and now we will include your son in our intentions.
Dawn

Krisann,
Please know that we're joining our prayers for your son to those you're already offering.
It's true that there aren't many priests out there...it would be wise for him to avail himself of all the sacraments whenever the opportunity arises.
But, it might also comfort you to know that some of the Protestant chaplains have learned how to pray the Rosary with the Catholic servicemembers; our chaplain in WV came from a Marine unit in Iraq, and he told me that he learned several Catholic prayers as well as how to pray the Rosary, so he could pray with everyone under his spiritual care.
I thought that was pretty cool, considering Chaplain Lee is Baptist. He truly did his best for all his troops.
You might want to send along a holy card with the Mysteries of Light printed on it, in case the chaplains don't have the most up-to-date prayer books. Sometimes the military is slow to update these things...
Hugs,

Prayers for your son - and for a resolution to this whole thing, so that all the soldiers can come home soon and in a way so that Iraqi families can live in peace without the terror.

I will add your son to my Rosary intentions. We so support our troops and the cause they are fighting for.
