Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I wanted to share this with you because it's really beautiful.

A close friend of our family is a large animal vet locally. He was 1/4 mile from the Amish schoolhouse when the tragedy was occuring. He knows most of these families very well. He said that the news is pretty accurate, however some details have not been reported.

One of the Amish dads told our friend that as soon as the boys were ordered to exit the schoolhouse to retreat to the outhouse, they started praying. They prayed there until they were found by police. The women who were released were also ordered to the outhouse and were praying as well.

Given how things went and what it now looks like the man intended to do, I truly believe those little girls were spared something even worse than what they endured.

Yesterday some of the families suffering from the loss of their children visited the gunman's wife and children and offered forgiveness and prayer for them.

This is such a beautiful witness and example to all of us! It truly lifts my heart to know these things and I thought some of you might like to know too.

God bless,

Thanks Michele it is comforting to know this. I prayed for all of them at mass this morning. Truly a sad and horrible event for all those involved.

Peace of Christ,

That is very touching to hear Michelle...we have been following this very sad, tragic story from Australia as it has been headline news here.

Only my 14 yr. old and older children even know about it. I have kept the news off when the younger children are around. I don't need the news anyway as there are enough local people who were there (police, EMS etc.) from whom we get information.

I talked to my dad today. He works security at the county home which also houses the morgue. He helps process the deceased that come through and Monday night was particularly difficult as he dealt with 3 of the little girls and the gunman.

It's been a hard week.

I did hear today that the 6 yr. old who had been released from the hospital yesterday and brought home to die, has since been taken back to the hospital because she began showing signs of improvement. Do keep praying as five little girls are still fighting to survive!

Michele : Thanks for posting this. My sis and I are trying to remember to pray the Chaplet of Divine Mercy for all those involved. We certainly pray for the families so tragically bereaved, for the wife of the gunman and her children and, of course, for the recovery and healing of the girls still fighting for their lives and their families. But we have also been struck by how absolutely horrendous things have been going on - and against the most peacable people, it is just hard to imagine. Anyways, we thought that the Chaplet of Divine Mercy for the world at large seems in order. I'm very forgetful but trying hard to remember 3PM.

What a good idea, Janet.

Thanks for sharing this with us, Michele. It is truly amazing to think of the witness these Amish families are providing for our country.

They tore down the school today. There's nothing left and it will just be a pasture.

I though I would share this e-mail with you. My sister sent it to me a few days ago. It's from one of the midwives at the birth center in Bart township (where the tragedy happened):

"Dear friends. Thank you so much for all your wonderful messages of love and grace during the terrible week of the schoolhouse tragedy. I want to share a meaningful update with you all.

Tuesday I attended the delivery of the young woman who was sent out of the school before the shooting started. She and her sister-in-law and her mother were spared. They were each holding babies, and our pregnant friend was also allowed to go specifically because of her pregnancy.

At one point during her lengthy labor she and her husband said how special the baby was to them because it had saved her life. This is their first child.

Her labor was slow but lovely, she drew on the strength shared by our wonderful staff. We had three nurses present as well as myself, a very unusual thing, but just the way it worked out. We all wondered if that in itself was the answer to the outpouring of prayer for this sweet little family. She and her husband were strong and
sweet and they had a beautiful baby girl, born into love and from love. They named the baby after one of the little girls that was killed, Naomi Rose.

We feel this lovely natural birth was a gift from a higher power, and means so much to all of us who were so close to grief and suffering during the last week and a half.

Again thank you for all your kind words and wishes."
