There has been a fire going on for several weeks in Ventura County near Thomas Aquinas College.
Today is a critical day:
Ventura Fire as the Santa Ana winds are accelerating.
So please keep those on the campus and in that area in your prayers. My son is among them. He says that there is an evacuation plan ready if it becomes necessary. In addition, they have been breathing smoke and ash for a couple of weeks now.

Apparently they are evacuating now. Liam sent this email to me:
Just to keep you informed, we have been recommended by the Fire Department
to evacuate the campus because of the fire which is in the area. There is
no danger at all to any of the students, and I think little danger to the
College, but as a precaution they wish us to remain in Santa Paula for a
while. I will continue to let you know how things go.
(By the way, Chari, if you read this and wonder why I didn't mention Liam and the fire situation when I was talking to you on the phone, it was because I... forgot to! Besides the fire was heading the other way then.

Thanks for the update, Willa. We will be praying for all involved, the safety of the students and firefighters and the protection of the college property. Fire is such an unpredictable and powerful force. We have been studying wildland fire and firefighting this summer and will continue by watching the status of this fire since it is more personal. I found another link to it's specific fire incident site.

Willa,
Someone just posted about the evacuation on the MODG eloop this morning. I came here to post a prayer request for your son and everyone there before leaving for Mass. I see that you have already been observing your own vigilant watch. (none of the emoticons seem appropriate )
As you know, a year ago today Hurricane Rita made landfall in my part of the country. We had made mandatory evacuation a few days before to north Louisiana and lived away from home for three weeks (four if you count the week spent at my brother's house because he had electricity before us). The difference is I had all my children with me.
It must be gut-wrenching to watch from afar.
But we are all constantly under God's vigilant care.
Know that your family and all the students at TAC and all the firefights have our prayers today.
and prayers

Willa, we have been praying and will continue to do so. Dh is on deployment status for natural disasters during the month of September so we have been hyper-vigilent. I'm so sorry for your worry and pray for safety and peace.
Love,

Cay -- yes, I remember your vigil so well. We are at least only 5 hours from the campus, which isn't as "afar" as some parents of the students. But it does seem a bit too far right now~! Thanks for all the prayers; also someone mentioned praying for the firefighters and their safety and health. I think there are about 2600 deployed right now.

Yikes! Willa thanks for posting. John emailed me and didn't mention it at all. I'll be praying for sure.

Update:
Liam emailed to say they are back on campus -- no classes today, but tomorrow they are planned to resume.
I hear that they spent last week soaking the TAC grounds so they were hopeful that the fire wouldn't be able to get a foothold there. And there have been airdrops of fire retardant nearby as well.
Here's the TAC site which updates regularly. Liam says he is not sure if the nearby town Santa Paula is threatened.
