We are headed to our annual vacation at the beach with my entire family (parents, 5 brothers and families) in a few days and I have a few prayer requests related to our trip.
Our van has been making some strange noises and when we took it in last month, they said that one of the sounds was due to our air conditioner compressor, which will need to be replaced at some point. With temps near/over 100 this week, I am sure we'll need to run the AC the entire trip. Please pray that we have a safe trip, that our van stays in good working condition, and that the AC doesn't have any problems.
Also, the cousins are getting older -- oldest one is now 13 -- and I am concerned more than in other years about my girls being affected by their choices in music, movies, fashions, etc. and freedoms they might be granted. We've had conversations to remind the girls that our family has different rules than other families, and that if some of the cousins are allowed to watch a movie of which we don't approve, they will have to exempt themselves, etc. They understand all this, but it won't make it any easier to face when something like that happens.
Could you all please say a prayer that we have a peaceful week in this area, and that the innocence of my children is protected?

Praying this morning for your trip. We dealt with this last year.  I hope some sweet memories are made for all the cousins.  ...and your AC holds out 'til cool weather!

Thanks so much for your prayers. We had a wonderful week at the beach. Our van made it there and back, with the a/c going the entire time, with no problems whatsoever.
And it seems that all of my brothers and sisters-in-law and dh and I were on the same page regarding movies, etc. All of the movies watched were acceptable to us. This new rental home came with a theater -- 10 very comfortable recliners and 4 of those rocking video chairs for extra seating and a huge movie screen (!) -- so when the kids had their fill of beach and pool, they spent some time most days in there.
And I hadn't even asked for prayers that I could handle the heat and the walks back and forth from the beach with my ever expanding, exhausted pregnant body, but all went well there too. The house came with an elevator. We all laughed last summer when we imagined the unnecessary extravagance of it. But it was a life-saver to me, since our bedrooms were on the first floor, and the kitchen/dining/living area was on the third floor. I was SO glad to avoid all those stairs!
And I have a recommendation to make for any of you who vacation on the Outer Banks. We stay in Corolla, which is north of Duck. There is a new nature center on the same site as the historic Whalehead Club and lighthouse. It was great for the last day, which was overcast, cool, and a bit rainy. There was a 20 minute movie and a rather large exhibit hall. They also have free activities all week long during the summer. Next year we plan to check online ahead and possibly sign up for an activity or two during our week there.

It was quite a house. And it's all thanks to my generous parents, who pick up about half the total rental cost. The six kids and spouses divide the rest. That means that we all get a week in a luxurious vacation home for about the cost of a week in one room at a mid-priced hotel. It's such a blessing!
