My grandma, 92, died peacefully yesterday on Good Shepherd Sunday.
She was not Catholic but very Christian. She married at 15 and with my granddad built their own home in rural southern Illinois. He worked in the oil fields and she tended the home and garden. I still remember them having cows. Everything was very well cared for. Worked hard during the week and totally observed the Sabbath. They had no books in their home except for the Bible and church pamphlets and the Farmers Almanac. My grandma later took and passed the GED - just because. She was real smart. Granddad drove home for a nice hot lunch every day from the oil fields and they watched their "story" on TV - "Days of Our Lives" - and then returned to work... for decades!!!!
They had such a structured life . They loved Jesus, said Grace before meals and were such happy people. I feel blessed.
