Dear Moms~
Please pray for our family. I have a child with ODD--and this makes life at home and home schooling more difficult, depressing, and joyless than I could possibly describe. I love this child with all my heart; attachment parented; eat organically; and it's just not enough. My dh and I differ greatly on how to approach this. So far, only our spiritual director really knows the extent of our sufferings as it is something we certainly do not advertise. But even he is at a loss as to what to do with such egregious offenses.
The tiniest things set this child off...as my dh says, as long as this child gets his/her way, then everything is fine...but the moment something does not go his/her way, the child punishes us. There is no regard for social propriety--outbursts in stores, etc are common. Constantly on pins and needles when out and about, but i have no choice as we do not have family in the area to help. We have been dealing with this behavior for many years now...it wears me down so badly.
On top of all that, there have been medical issues with both dh and myself and other serious issues that we are dealing with as a family...it's wave after wave of what I think is spiritual attack.
I am begging for your prayers for our family. Thank you all!

Praying for you, your child and your entire family with much, much empathy. We recently discovered a helpful method of dealing with a grandchild who has similar reactions and makes life trying for everyone around: having the child sit in a quiet place alone seems to lessen all the outward stimulation of life that sets off severe reactions. I have been hugging them more and softly, gently telling them that it will be alright, but that they must not scream or yell, that this is their time to think about it before talking to me afterward. Just a thought in case something similar might help in your situation. {{{HUGS}}} and prayers.

Prayers with much empathy!  We have one who has always had a more difficult temperament to deal with and has had numerous learning struggles, too. These children, God's special gift, I find actually teach us a lot as we try to help them learn, and make it through life. It has been a lot of learning and for us as parents has actually opened our eyes to some of our own faults, and poor methods at times of dealing with things. It really can wipe you out, though, and causes many emotional worries, like "am I giving too much time to parenting this child, and not the others", it can be hard on the marriage etc. Offering up my day for you and this intention, while at the same time praying we can be the best parents we can to this precious blessing of ours, too.
