Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Hello,

It been along time since I posted. My family has been through a lot lately and we are about to change things up again.

I am asking for prayers for our family and advice so I am not sure if this is the right place for the post. Here goes.

We just finished our homestudy and we now waiting on the state to be licensed.

We are leaving this in God's hand but we are hoping to do adoption and not deal with the emotions that happen with fostering and falling in love and having to return them home. Again this is in God's protecting hand and we are praying for His will be done.

If you could please pray for my family and children we will be blessed with as well as their families and caseworkers. We would great appreciated it.

Now for the advice. Has anyone out there homeschooled foster children? Our County/State allows you to if you have been "approved" to homeschool prior to placement depending on the situation.

How do you handle the needs of each child has it pertains to advocating for their best interest and convincing(might not be the best word) the county that they might be better off homeschooling?   I already have two children with Sensory Integration and one with Visual/Auditory Processing Disorder. So I am not worried about that part. Also, any advice about adding younger kids to our homeschool would be great.

I have gotten pretty comfortable homeschooling a 7th & 8th grader, not that they don't come with their own challenges but homeschooling middles is completely different then littles.

Well, this was a lot more wordier then I intended. Thanks for you time and I will covet your prayers and any advice you can give.

God bless you all,

Beth

Praying for your intentions, Beth.

We weren't homeschooling Rose because she was too young, but we did have to answer questions about our educational choices in general. You may be able to find answers online with your County or whoever does the Foster Care services. We were never classified as Foster parents, but I would think if you are in the process of adopting and have to be classified as Foster parents first (I think that is common), it might be easier to homeschool since that will be your intention when the adoption happens.

We tried to just be honest in everything. It is not always easy and County social workers are not necessarily used to working with homeschooling families, but once they saw what we did here and that the kids were great and thriving even, they were more accepting.

We will have a similar 'battle' when Rose turns 3. The services we receive through the school district are good but they expect that Rose will go to school. We've had a few short conversations about it, and it is not what is going to happen, but we know we'll have to address this in a more formal way soon.

Your intentions are beautiful and good! You will change - save! - a child's life. I will pray specifically that any social workers involved in your case will not be anti-homeschooling.

God bless you!

Hi Beth, my best advice is to be prepared to hire a lawyer. DES and CPS are hostile toward homeschooling families. Praying for you and your intentions.

Love,

If you are not already a member of HSLDA, I would join. Also, regardless of whether you are a member or not, they may have info, even specific to your state, on what to be prepared for, tips, etc. when it comes to dealing with the legal side of what you're taking on. God bless your family, as you seek to loving help precious Little Ones!

Praying for all you will face, and grace upon you all and the Little Ones you may adopt.....
