Please could you spare a moment to pray for my daughter, who has a job interview today at noon, CT? She's applying to teach at a classical charter school in San Antonio, and this is the followup to a phone interview back in December. Her interview today includes a 20-minute teaching demonstration -- she has to teach a poem to a 5th-grade class.
When I talked to her last night, she was pretty nervous, though really she's good at getting up and talking in front of people. Please pray for calm nerves and presence of mind while she's in front of that classroom, and a good interview overall.
Also, she has some discernment to do in the Department of Romantic Affairs. She feels very clearly called to marriage, and as of right now, there are a couple of potential suitors presenting themselves to varying degrees. I don't want to say more about it than that, but some prayers for wisdom and clarity about God's will for her life in the next year or so (or, potentially, forever) would be greatly appreciated. And if there's something better I could be doing than just saying, "Uh huh," a lot on the phone, I'd love for God to reveal this to me, too.
Thanks, and please know that I'm praying for all of your intentions.
Sally
UPDATE: She just called to say that she got offered the job she wanted! She'll be teaching a K-5 grade at a new Great Hearts Academy campus in San Antonio next year! They said that ordinarily they would offer an assistant-teacher position to someone right out of school, but she had showed such natural ability and command in the classroom that they felt comfortable extending the offer of a "lead-teacher" position if she wanted it.
Nice thing about homeschooling: you end up with people who really *think* about education, per se, having been on the alternative side of things.
Anyway, we're super proud of her, and I thank you all so much for your prayers!
I'm continuing to pray for her romantic life . . .

at this, Sally, because I completely empathize! Prayers for your dd, for you, and for her future spouse, should marriage be God's will for her.

Thank you all! She just called and said that the job interview went very, very well. She had to teach a poem to a class of 5th graders, and overall I think the administrators observing her were really impressed. She liked them a lot, too, and if they offer her a position, she'll take it.
Anyway, again, thank you for the prayers. The Romantic Affairs prayers could continue . . . I of course would like for her to settle down with some nice young man who lives a maximum of ten miles away, but we'll see what God has to say about that.
Thanks again!
Sally

Say "uh huh" alot but also say things that express confidence in her. And of course any tips about things that are good to keep in mind when thinking about who you want to spend your life with. Umm, just to be clear, I don't mean for you to give your opinion about a person but more.. things like.. it's easier for a couple if they share the same faith, or it's good if you have similiar goals of where you want to spend your lives (not exact cities but if she's dreaming of skyscrapers, she probably doesn't want to marry a rancher in rural Texas ) You know.. just things that don't require her to answer.. but can help give her things to think about.. if she's looking for that type of input or some type of input.

My mom's most helpful comment to me was, "When I met your dad, I thought he was kind of a nerd, but I went out with him anyway." (My dad went to Caltech and was tall and thin...wore glasses...he did look like an early 1960s nerd...they met at a Catholic young adults' group at my mom's parish.) Six months later they were engaged. I'm sure my mom has no idea how she inspired me to look at character and faith as well as more obvious attributes!
They celebrated their 53rd anniversary this past year.

Praying too!
In the same month, many moons ago, I was offered my first full-time teaching position and asked to be married.
Makes me smile for you daughter, Sally.

Thanks to everyone for your prayers.
And really, I do say more than just "Uh huh!" :) We've had many, many long talks about life, relationships, what's important, what to look for, how to conduct yourself, etc., etc., etc. But I do also spend a lot of time listening and verbally nodding while she vents or thinks aloud.
She is pretty savvy about what kind of life she wants -- not that our human plans don't get all undone all the time.
eta: I deleted a good bit of this, because it was probably TMI for the situation. Waiting to see how things develop on various fronts.
Thanks again very, very much for your prayers.
Sally
