Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

DH has worked with this current company for 6 years. For 4 of those years, he's had an ongoing struggle involving managers trying to schedule him to work on Sundays for overtime. He thought the issue was resolved, until a few weeks ago when his general manager tried scheduling him again for OT on 2 or 3 Sundays in a row. His typical work schedule is Wednesday-Saturday (long hours/late days), so working Sunday would mean he couldn't even attend a Saturday evening Mass. He offered to work OT on a Monday or Tuesday, but they pretty much just ignored him. Their exact words were, "If you don't like the schedule, call in sick." But calling in sick on a scheduled overtime day would result in getting written up.

He's tried time and time again to explain that he's a practicing Catholic, and reserves Sundays for his faith. They ignore him, and schedule him on Sundays anyway.

So he submitted a complaint to HR. HR tried to argue with him, but knows that the law protects him in this case, so they had to give in and tell him that they'd do what they could to avoid scheduling him on Sundays. However, once his managers found out he complained to HR, he started dealing with some major attitude from them. Including "we're very disappointed that you took this issue over our heads" lectures, and silent treatment from other managers.

This company was voted Worst Company in America to work for in 2013 for many reasons...one of which being that they simply don't care about their employees. It's not unlike them to just fire someone who they're sick of dealing with, especially the "squeaky wheels" so to speak. In NY, an employer can fire someone for just about any reason. So DH is just feeling a little uneasy at work right now.

DH is looking into other opportunities, but the unfortunate reality is that starting over at a new company would almost definitely mean a significant pay cut. With Baby #5 on the way, that's a little intimidating. So we're prayerfully discerning for now. I'd appreciate your prayers....both for guidance on what our next step should be (if anything) and that his current employer becomes a bit easier to deal with!

I'm praying for your intentions, and for your peace of mind as you and your husband discern.
