A friend of mine has a relative, Shelly, who had gone into pre-term labor a few weeks ago. Shelly had been hospitalized and was bleeding a lot. Finally the doctors could not stop the bleeding or labor anymore. She delivered a baby girl on Friday night at our local children's hospital. The baby is 15 weeks early.....at only 25 weeks along in pregnancy (she was due in August). She weighs 2 lbs and is 14 inches long.
The baby is surprisingly strong for her age and small size. And as of today, she is breathing on her own! She is in the NICU unit. She will remain in the hospital for about 3 months they say (until her actual due date). At this point they can not be certain what kind of future problems she will have, with being so premature.
We are just praying she will live, continue to breathe on her own, and start to grow healthier and stronger every day. Right now her diaper is about the size of half of a kleenex, and her mouth is about 1/2 inch wide....soooooo tiny and precious!
The baby's name is Campbell.

A little update on baby Campbell:
After birth Campbell lost weight and she dropped below 2 pounds. But she finally began gaining and she's now over 2 pounds. While she is not on oxygen, she does have regular air being blown into her lungs to help inflate them. Also, I understand that she "forgets" to breathe sometime, so this air blowing in helps to remind her. So, she is getting stronger and bigger, ever so slowly.
But she has this heart problem (different from the hole in the heart) that many preemies get--an artery that didn't close. She will have to have that corrected either this week or next. It entails a small incision. Supposedly, all the preemies in that nursery have had it. The hole in the heart will require open heart surgery in about 6 mos.
Her mother, Shelly, gets to hold her for about 1 1/2 hours every three days. They have to make sure she stays warm and don't want her out of the incubator very often yet. Shelly says they have special diapers that are 3" wide. And they are putting a tiny pacifier in her mouth. So, she still needs prayers, and probably will for quite some time.

Just saw this, Rebecca. Praying for baby Campbell and her parents! I have a niece who was born earlier than this and when she was born she could fit into her father's hand. She is now 5 and doing great, though a bit small for her age. Will keep her on our prayer list, please let us know when her first surgery is scheduled.
