I really need prayers. I haven't been on here in a long time so I hate to come begging on my first day back. Things have been hard lately. I have struggled with depression and anxiety, mostly over our very precarious financial situation (there honestly is nothing to do for it other than just push through and keep chipping away at the debt but I still worry). This situation has caused so much tension and resentment in my marriage. We are still solid, thank the Lord, but we do not have the fun, loving closeness that we once enjoyed.
It's embarrassing for me to say but I also struggle with envy. I see other people have so much. Nicer everything. It makes me very jealous. I am so ashamed of that emotion. In my prayer life, I feel like God is telling me to deactivate my facebook account (which can be a place where I see what "other people" have that we do not). I just haven't been able to do it. It seems to be an addiction...again, very embarrassing.
Thank you for your prayers.

Dear Vanna, praying for you. Money has always been a struggle in our marriage. Have you ever read this blog http://www.aholyexperience.com/ by Ann Voskamp. She wrote the book, 1000 Gifts. It's amazing.
Also, regarding facebook...things are not really what they seem. People may look like they have a lot..or they may have a lot but struggle deeply in other areas.
Praying for you. May God bless your family richly in many ways.

A quick note: not that it totally cured me of envy (I still have to confess that one!), but once, when I was expressing envy for something that had come the way of a friend of mine, but not by me, the mutual friend to whom I was venting pointed out that if I wanted that one element in our other friend's life, I had to be willing to want her whole life instead of my own. That really cast things in a whole other light.
My confessors have often pointed out that ingratitude to God for His gifts to me is at the root of all my envy, and this is true. I have to work actively at cultivating gratitude -- it doesn't come very easily to me. But it helps me also to remember the words of my friend: that my envy, in the cold hard light of day, is the temptation to cherry-pick what looks nice out of someone else's life, when -- if my idle wish were granted -- getting it would mean having to trade my own whole life and everything that's good in it for that person's, and everything that's not so good there.
Again, I'll offer my day for you, Vanna, with much empathy.
Sally

Thank you for your prayers and wise words. I will think on these things and continue to pray.
Sally, you are right. I wouldn't want to exchange it all. I have blessing overflowing in my life. I need to stop letting the little wants and desires block me from seeing the vastness of God's love and care for me.
MariB, I haven't read that site. I will check it out. Thank you.
Seastar - What a great quote by Roosevelt. I am going to post that in my house...possibly tattoo it on my arm. ;)
Thank you again, everyone.

Vanna, nothing to apologize! Always happy to pray for my sister in Christ! I do hope you can feel more positive. Being depressed is so hard.

**Update**
I went ahead at deleted my facebook account. I decided that it at worst was bringing me a lot of envy and negativity...at best, it was just a meaningless time-sucker.
It was actually harder to do than it should have been. I definitely had a little facebook addiction happening.
Thank you!
