On Sunday my son is flying from NC to CA to participate in an Outward Bound backpacking expedition in the Sierra Nevada range. He's very, very excited about this outdoor opportunity, and we're excited for him, despite all the scrambling to collect gear, copy the insurance card, get a blessing from our pastor, etc. etc. etc.

Could you please spare a prayer for safe and uneventful travels -- he's pretty unflappable, but this is the first time he's flown alone, and it's a looooooong journey. Also, I'd like to ask prayers for him while he's on trail with a group of people he's never met, from -- I imagine -- wildly different backgrounds from his own. He's a mature, confident, articulate kid (he's 15, almost 16), but my prayer is that he'll be a good friend, make good friends, and hold his own charitably in conversations which might or might not be congenial to his faith and worldview. This trip is a 16th-birthday gift to him from a very generous grandmother (who could also use prayers, just in a general way, for the good of her soul), and I'm praying that it will be a time of great and maybe unexpected blessings, both for him and for the people with whom he'll be in close contact.
