My brother, Daniel, who has spastic quadriplegia cerebral palsy, had to go to the emergency room Monday night for severe vomiting and dehydration. It turns out his colon was impacted...again. So, it looks like he will be getting a permanent colostomy tomorrow. Apparently it is common for CP patients' colons to gradually lose the ability to function properly. He turns 28 on Monday, and he told my Dad it was what he wanted to perhaps get some liberty back that he's lost in recent years   Anyway, please offer a prayer for him. His last hospital/surgery experience was just awful, and I know he's completely stressed out and scared. They are at a different hospital this time, and Dad says he likes both the surgeon and primary care doctor as well as the nurses, so that is positive. Please pray, too, for my Dad and all my family as they are with him and helping to bear the burden of his care. Thanks, ladies

Update 5/2:

Daniel went into surgery this morning. Today will not be the colostomy. He has too much bloating, and they are not able to get as clear a picture from the tests as they normally have before such a procedure, so today is an incision to relieve bloating and inserting a scope so that the surgeon and gastro-whatever specialist can determine exactly what needs to be done tomorrow.

5/4:

Thank you for all your prayers! They ended up completing the procedure the first day having found a twist in his colon. The doctors say he's doing well. He's out of ICU and in a regular room. His electrolytes are out of whack but they're expecting them to balance out as the swelling goes down. He's keeping clear liquids down and talking well.

Thank you so much for your prayers. He was finally able to go back home They'd forgotten to renew the scrip for his regular medication for muscle tension, and that was contributing to his anxiety, but once they fixed that, he was able to rest and eat. He is at home resting to regain his strength.
