8/16 PM: This post is getting long and I keep hoping there are no further prayer request updates but this is really serious and so I continue to ask for prayers for the boy and his family. Newest update from his mom: Adam now has an E. Coli infection. We all have E. Coli in our gut but when it gets out of control you have problems. There are two different opinions on how the abscess occurred but the bottom line is that it allowed the E. Coli to overgrow. He has been on the wrong antibiotic for this. They switched drugs but the one that has to be used is administered via IV and he has to have a 10 day course of it.
It is possible for him to come home still on IV drugs. If the drainage stops and he has no fever for 24-48 hrs (he had a low grade fever last night) and he is eating, drinking, and stooling okay, he can be discharged.
I don't have any prognosis on when all this might happen. So, we'll just keep praying!
Thank you again.
8/14 AM: So, thought things were well. They traveled back home last Thurs/Fri but Adam developed a fever Sun. Went to ER yesterday and they found an abscess where they performed the surgery. He's having surgery this morning to drain it and attempt to find the source. Hopefully it's not a hole in his intestines or they'll have to fly him back to OH from TX. The boy is scared, the father is weary and the mother is worried although she knows God is with them. Please continue to pray for them even if you don't post.
Original Post
We know a wonderful Catholic family that are currently about 5 states away so that their middle child can have a surgery to correct some issues with his colon from Herschbrung's disease (sp?).
This little boy, Adam, is 9 and the surgery was to start at 7:30 EST and should take about 5 hours. He will be in the hospital a minimum of a week and will then need to either drive or fly back home with his dad after mom returns.
If you could please pray for all the obvious from a surgery as well as his healing and suffering after the surgery plus the traveling of the family and all the other kiddos left here with a family friend.
Here's an update from the mom :
"The surgery was a little longer than normal but so far he's doing good. If you could, please pray for a few specific things. First, that Adam's bowels will wake up sooner rather than later. He cannot begin to eat or drink until this happens. So he's looking at nothing by mouth for the next 4-6 days. That's tough to deal with. And he can't be discharged until we are certain that his entire digestive system is working. Second, please pray for no infections. He's running a slight fever right now which is normal but we hope that it will disappear soon. Third, please pray for his general spiritual and emotional health. It's hard to be in the hospital and harder still to be in a hospital 1000 miles from home."
Thank you prayer warriors. This little boy has suffered greatly from this disease his whole life and there is great hope that this surgery can give him some semblance of a more normal life and that he can begin to grow and gain weight.
Update #2, Sun 8/5 evening:
Apparently things were progressing well and Adam started solid foods but spiked a fever, had increased pain and is now off solids and on morphine which can cause his intestines to further slow down causing him even greater pain. He is apparently in much pain. His mom is now back home 1000 miles away (although dad is with him) but I can't imagine being away from my child during such an ordeal. Please pray for them.

Praying with empathy, it's hard to not be able to eat as you wait for the bowels to wake up(just had that after a c-section a few weeks ago), and it is really hard to be in the hospital, when you JUST WANT TO GO HOME! Praying his bowels will wake up fast, and for the time to fly by 'til he can go home. I know how hard it is, as I had surgeries as a kid, too. May Our ord and Our Lady keep Adam, and his whole family close during this time!
