Strep last week and now a very high fever with hives!
Please pray for her.
Her FHC is this Saturday!
**Update at end of posts. Please keep praying. She has taken a nasty turn and is concerning her mommy and daddy and her doctors.**

I've had terrible hives from an allergic reaction to penicillin in the past, but I think the fever is not a reaction. Can you get in touch with your doctor? The antibiotic might not be the right one to treat the strep, and you don't want to mess around with a strep infection.

It's Amoxicillin.
Could be from the strep itself, but she has been on it for almost 7 days...so it would surprise me if this was still the strep infection?
I'm not that well seasoned with this stuff...

Day 7 - pretty common to get a rash from amox at that point. An allergic reaction usually occurs within 2 days. Also, strep can cause a rash too. She should be fine for the weekend.

I'd be concerned about the continuing fever. Angi's right that it is not uncommon to get a rash from amoxicillin, but you should tell your doctor about it, as amox is in the penicillin family and once you have a reaction you need to be careful about further use of penicillin.
The fever from the strep should be gone by now, which is why I wonder if the amox is working for her. She may need a different antibiotic. Strep itself can cause a rash as well. To be on the safe side, I'd call the dr.

She already had the rash from strep. It was her first symptom, oddly enough. Looked like chicken pox--a bit of an atypical rash...but the amox. cleared it up really well.
The new rash is like quadrilateral welts. She only had two this afternoon...three this evening. They do itch her.
Called the dr. this afternoon. Didn't get the best advice. She told me to give her another dose of the abx and if the rash got worse to give her benadryl...and then we would know for sure if the amox is bothering her...or something else.
My ds is complaining of his stomach hurting..and honestly, I feel very nauseated myself right now...
So maybe this is all a virus on top of the strep?
Her fever is acting like a roller coaster. Everytime the tylenol wears off, her fever spikes. She cannot take ibuprofen as she is allergic.
Am I being too worried?

Trust your instincts. If you feel it is serious, get medical attention. If the fever is over 103 or lasts more than two days, get her to the doctor. It certainly could be something else completely different from the strep. Has she/any of you been exposed to anything recently?
You said she had a very high fever. Not sure how high, but a high or long-lasting fever isn't something to ignore.
Did you try the benadryl? That would help you figure out if there is an allergic component.
I still think that doesn't really explain the fever, even if the benadryl clears the rash.
At any rate, this forum is not really the place to get medical advice. Again, if you are really concerned don't worry about whether you are bothering your doctor, get the medical attention you need.

Caroline et al,
No need to worry. I am a worrier to the nth degree and have no qualms about calling the doctor or going into the office. The late onset of the fever is most concerning to us.
While I do appreciate the advice of others (because admittedly, I have not had to deal with many sicknesses here), I do not rely on the forum for medical advice. It's just helpful having people be sympathetic/empathetic.
We just need a lot of prayer right now...My dd begged our parish priest to receive early in the summer of 2011...he did not allow her then but has allowed her to receive a full year early...she has been waiting for this day for years...and yearning for it in a special way for 8 months. I really want to see her have the most wonderful celebration...especially since I had to cancel a surprise bday party for her due to the strep...
Prayers most appreciated.

Absolutely praying for you, Maggie. Hope she feels better in the morning.
Sorry if I sounded like I was trying to tell you what to do...guess I'm a bit of a worrier, myself !
Sleep well!

No apologies necessary.
I'm just so glad I can come here for support in schooly things and non-schooly things.

Praying she feels better soon, and that whatever is going on will not keep her from the scheduled event.

Please keep praying.
My dd has taken a turn for the worst. The drs. are worried. If her fever does not break tonight, she is in for blood draws tomorrow to figure out if this is bacterial. Chances are that it is viral...the poor girl is in a lot of pain and discomfort. Being allergic to Motrin does not help her cause either.
Please pray. Things are not looking good.
In addition to her health, grandma (who made the FHC dress!) and grandpa are flying in from WI. Her godmother is flying in from TX...and cannot make a "rescheduled" First Communion if it came to that as she will be entering a convent soon. My husband's 95 year old grandmother is making the trip, too...and will not be able to return if needed.
Please pray this all works out. Obviously, we can't plan around everyone else...but this is so sad! My children never get sick...and here it is...this week. this time. This Sacrament!
I need prayers for a lot of strength.
Maggie
