After the events of the past 10 days and Tate's passing, I am having a hard time picking up the pieces and resuming our normal family routine. I was planning on restarting homeschool this morning, but didn't. I would appreciate any prayers you could send me to help me jump back in to our normal life. I just feel kind of stuck right now. Thanks for your prayers. I know they will help.

I'm praying...you've been on an emotionally-draining journey, for sure.
One thought...sometimes it's easier to do what I call "School Lite," (lots of picture books, couch time for cuddling, park time or nature walk if the weather is nice) to ease back into a routine rather than try to do everything all at once.

Praying here too! I second Nancy's suggestion. Start slow and with the cuddly, feel better stuff. It's a more natural transition, is gentle on you and the kids, and can be healing and inspiring.

Grief is like that, Kristin! It's because loss is really quite like a birth - you have to adjust and find a totally new normal because it reshapes who you are within that circle (family, close friends, Church).
It takes time and being very gentle on yourself to walk the suffering through this process! Gentle on the kids, too! They are grieving as well though sometimes they seem to be fine. After losing my brother several months ago, all my children were devastated. They also seem to move through their day much more normally than I did (do) - I felt like (sometimes still feel like) I was a grieving blob, and they bounce around the house like normal. But, you have to be ready for their grief at any turn. The other day, my 6 yo and I were doing some simple lessons - he's preparing for his First Holy Communion. We were talking about Lazarus, and how Jesus wept for his friend and raised him from the dead. My little fella instantly said, "Oh! I'll ask Jesus for that for Christmas then! I'd like Uncle Chris back!" So sweet and sincere. They're so literal and they let you know in these little ways that they still hurt, still miss someone.
Home education has actually brought a comforting sense of routine as we try to establish our new normal. I'm NOT encouraging a hasty jump back into lessons, and yours are so young, I'd pull back from anything remotely formal until I was totally ready!!! But, I am saying that once you're ready to step in, even though it feels a little foreign, it quickly fills up time and space with routine in ways that bring comfort and little joys.
I hope it was ok to share some of the things that seem parallel in our grief, Kristin. Loss is hard for those of us missing someone that we had a special friendship/relationship with! I'm praying for you and the children!

Jen, thanks so much for sharing your experience. I do feel like our normal routine would help me, but it is just so hard to jump back in. I think everyone has great advice to start slowly. Maybe tomorrow we will only do our unit study and see how that goes. Somehow, making lava like you find on Venus might be just what I need to get excited about something again. I will do some read alouds with the kids today and maybe we will play some games or something. I want so badly to enjoy my kids, but I just feel this detachment from everything right now. I am sure that God will give me the grace to get through this. Thanks for all of your kind words and prayers.

You are in my prayers, Kristin. Please be gentle with yourself; you've just been through/are in the middle of some profoundly affecting things. I don't know that we're meant to jump back on our "normal" track too soon after something like this.
Peace,
Nancy
