Please pray for my 14 yr. old nephew Julian. He had a skateboarding accident around 4:00 p.m. Tuesday (April 11) and is now at Vanderbilt Children's Hospital with a fractured skull. We are thanking God that the doctors have ruled out brain damage and eye damage, but he has a bad concussion at the base of his skull where it is broken. It is also broken above one eye. They've been told that both fractures will heal without surgery. As of midnight he is still unconscious and is intubated in case he vomits and aspirates it. They are told to expect him to behave strangely and have a horrible headache for the next few days.

UPDATE:
Julian has a very bad concussion and his brain is bruised. They have taken the tube out of his mouth because he has started to respond. He's still very out of it and still in the ICU, but he nods and squeezes his mom's hand at appropriate times. He pushes her hand away in irritation when she tries to wake him. The doctors are assuring them that he has no neurological or spinal damage and he will recover, although he may need therapy later.
Please continue to pray that Julian's brain will not swell and that he will continue to respond and come out of it and become more alert, and pray that he will be able to endure the pain that is sure to come in the next few days.

Another update:
Julian really started coming around today, and they moved him from the ICU to a regular room around suppertime. His dad said that earlier a nurse was doing something to Jules, and he got irritated and told her to "Go away!" That meant that he was definitely waking up. His mom said that he had gotten up, sat in a chair, walked to the bathroom, and was sleeping again from having worn himself out. He seemed angry with himself for the predicament he's in, and he put his arm around his mom as if to apologize for putting her through it. He's not saying much. But it's only been a little over 24 hours! So the doctors and nurses are very optimistic about his recovery and very encouraging to his parents.
Apparently his skull is fractured on the left near his ear and by his left eye, as well as the broken left collarbone. As I understand it he was skateboarding down a big hill near their house and he flipped off backwards and landed on the pavement. I'm assuming he did not have his helmet on. We are all very much aware of how blessed we are that his injuries aren't worse and that he's coming around so quickly. And he's in one of the best children's hospitals in the country, if not the world, for this kind of injury. Thanks be to God.
