Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Hi,

I/we could use your prayers, to St. Joseph maybe?

We run a business together, web and IT stuff. My husband is the one who performs technical services for clients. Web development projects are really our bread and butter and we're trying to bring in more such work.

The problem is that there's so much stuff that he couldn't in good conscience be responsible for putting on the web, and plenty more questionable stuff that is hard to figure out whether his role in it would be OK. Because of all the restrictions on what he is able to work on, my husband could not take a job with almost any web development company, unless it happened to be run by likeminded people, rather than staying with our own business.

He went to a meeting to do some networking and now has more potential work to discuss. One potential project is for the most neutral, uncontroversial type of company... yet there are some links from their existing site that are questionable (which they would most likely want on their new site too), but it's not at all a straightforward thing. I'm not interested in discussing the specifics here, I just want prayers. We'll have to ask a priest. Thing is, they often have to rely on their judgment too. Once we turned down work because the priest we asked wasn't sure but wasn't comfortable with it, even though he admitted another priest he had asked thought it was fine.

This kind of thing can be very painful, especially when we don't really know we have to turn it down but have to err on the side of caution. And in this case, it wouldn't be the easiest thing to explain -- it's not at all an obvious, clearcut thing like being expected to place a link to Planned Parenthood or something. It would probably never occur to a lot of faithful Catholics that there could be a problem with these links. So it's not just about losing one unacceptable or questionable job, but if we have to turn this work down on this basis, probably losing any future acceptable work from the connection that was made or people he might have referred to us. We seriously need more income.

Anyway, thanks for your prayers.

Oh Theresa, I TOTALLY get what you are saying and I am so proud of you and your dh. It is CRAZY hard to be a small businessman these days. I pray that you can discern well and that your dh can fulfill his vocation as provider with peace. I'll ask my dh to pray as well.

May St. Michael protect you, St. Joseph intercede for you, and May God provide abundantly for your needs.

Love,

Many prayers, and lots of empathy. It is so hard sometimes to know where to draw these lines in the web world, and in a business, especially when finances get tight. May God reward you greatly for your faithfully seeking to measure things by what is True, and R ight, and Good!

Praying for you and dh Theresa, and for all small family businesses who continually face such difficult dilemnas. May God crown the efforts of all those seeking to provide for their families in ways that honor Him. I mentioned to dd recently, perhaps Catholics need to unite under a larger internet umbrella, to avoid such issues! Praying for grace, wisdom and discernment for all your intentions.

Thanks for your prayers! The priest I asked (the same one who had been uncomfortable with the idea of other work that we ended up turning down) consulted with a diocesan moral theologian and they both think that we are OK to take this project. We were fully prepared to turn this down if we couldn't resolve the doubt, but it was such a relief not to have to. Thank you, Lord, and St. Joseph too
