Ladies, I would like to ask for your prayers for the protection of our pro-life warriors in the Philippines. I don't know if you've been able to catch glimpses of it on the 'net at all, but Michael Voris (of RealCatholicTV) is in Manila right now covering the spiritual war that's going on there.
Philippine legislators are on the brink of passing a bill that's anti-marriage, anti-family and anti-life. This is in a country that's supposedly 80% Catholic.
Lines are being drawn, it's all getting heated, friendships and families are falling apart. I'm working with some people behind the scenes (our project is at FilipinosforLife.com) and there is scary stuff going on. So many lies are being maliciously spread. They've even taken the phrase "responsible parenthood" to mask what they're trying to do. So many atheists/agnostics/ultra-feminists/Church haters are using Scripture, Church teaching, etc. against pro-lifers, and many, esp. the poor who have notion of what's going on are going to be the victims of this bill if it passes. Even homeschoolers might not be spared the comprehensive sex ed that will be mandated (I've seen portions of the manual and they're taking directly from UNFPA, USAID and other anti-life materials from the US/UN).
Please pray especially for tomorrow. 4 pm Philippine time, 3 am Eastern time here in the US, the pro-RH Bill people will be storming the Bishops' headquarters to rally. Michael Voris will be going there with the head of Pro-Life Philippines, along with whoever other pro-life people they can get to come, to counter this attack. Please pray for their safety. This weekend already has so many pro-life activities going on, e.g., people will be attending pro-life conferences in the morning tomorrow, so the other side is using this as distraction and taking advantage of the fact that not many of the ones who already traveled to the conferences will be able to come to defend the Bishops' headquarters.
If you are on Facebook, please show us/them your support by going to the "I Oppose the RH Bill" page and "liking" it. The enemy is watching this page (I have firsthand proof of this) and they're using it as a gauge to see what the pro-lifers are doing and how many are involved. The increase in numbers are demoralizing them and some are starting to think they're losing, which is advantageous to us.
I know we're also in the midst of a battle here in the US with Planned Parenthood, but if you could take a moment to support people on the other side of the world as well, we'd appreciate it! Thank you so much for your prayers. I will post updates as I'm able.

I have been praying about this issue, Stef. Our associate pastor is from the Philippines and we've met his bishop on a few occasions. They are wonderful ambassadors for the Philippines and for the Catholic Church.

What exactly is in the bill? I need to do some research. I will definitely include this in my prayer intentions today!

a link to the latest draft
it has provisions for
1) free or low cost contraceptives -- targeted towards the poor who are "having too many children too soon"
2) mandatory comprehensive sex ed for children starting at fifth grade
3) mandatory "family planning" classes for couples planning to get married
4) prosecution of anyone who spreads "malicious disinformation" about the bill/law
among other things. (here's a legal analysis of a previous draft -- some have been taken out but some are still in the current draft
The Philippines received a $434 million grant from the US last year (google Millennium Development Goals), so the President and legislators are under tremendous pressure to pass this bill. Google NSSM 200 -- you'll find that this started in 1974 when the Philippines was pinpointed by Kissinger et al as one of the countries that need to depopulate. It's only because the country has remained staunchly Catholic that only small strides have been made (altho' I wouldn't call people getting sterilized forcibly or voluntarily, "small strides" - it happened to someone very very close to me :( ). But more and more Protestant mentality has been creeping in, and a lot of them "don't get it" and are pro-passing the bill. What's really sad about this is that we have several dissenting priests that have come out openly supporting the RH bill, and the "other side" are really loud and obnoxious, using Facebook, Twitter, and other means to get their message out there and brainwash the people. They insist that the poor are "clamoring for Reproductive Health" services and many Filipinos have bought this hook, line and sinker. Many are now under the impression that the only hope for Philippine economy to get better and for them to compete with other markets is to depopulate. The bill says that a family size of "2 children" will be "suggested" to married couples. But we all know what that means.
Also, abortion is already taking place in back alleys, etc. but IPPF has been exaggerating the numbers saying 11 women die each day because of these and that's why "safe and legal abortion" should be provided. (No such language in the current bill yet, but we are anticipating that that's next.) It's really insidious the way they're doing this, so many are convinced already that this bill is for "the common good" without realizing the long-term disastrous effects. Thank you for your prayers and for allowing me to vent and share here.
If you know any pro-life Filipinos that can get involved, please let them know (you/they can also contact me if they want so I can get them connected) -- I am very disappointed with the Filipinos I know here, some say they're "concerned" but are content to just watch from the sidelines. One pro-lifer in the Philippines said this morning, "I went to the mall wearing a pro-life pin, and people started staring at me, and I felt very much alone." Another one had a lifelong friend attack her on FB telling her to stop it with the "pontification". It's sad and scary.

I think it is ridiculous for our country to be involved in any way in depopulating another country. I have been to the Philippines on a mission trip. I know there is overpopulation in the cities, but there is a lot of room in the outlying areas. I don't think it is any of our business at all. I hope that this bill doesn't pass.

...and.....
my prayer warrior hat is ON!
Stef, God bless you for your passion, efforts, and courage. It is so exhausting to fight and scrape against pockets STEEPED in evil...pockets within systems that become little power places where evil flourishes and bulldozes...
God must love the Filipino people very much to ask them to battle in this way.
Love,

Oh Kristin, not that this is supposed to make any of us feel better, but some European countries and Australia have also granted money to the Phils. in support of MDG (I think it was 78 Million from Aus). So it's really the worldwide culture of death that's creeping in. I don't mean to imply that this is all the US' doing because it's not.

Praying here, Stef. My MIL seems to think there's no chance of this passing and hasn't been very concerned (I was talking to her about it a couple weeks ago, right after she got back from a visit to PI), but I've been reading otherwise. Very scary stuff.

If the president were pro-life I wouldn't be scared. The fact that he's the opposite of his mother tells me a lot. The bill has already passed the house. Next is senate. Some people are already thinking of Plan B -- *when* the bill passes. Even parents who choose to homeschool may have their rights compromised.
Maybe have your MIL watch videos from this playlist:

It's difficult -- my relatives and close friends seem to be indifferent and to think, "not going to happen here"

UPDATE: RH Bill supporters are trying to get this passed by tomorrow. They insist on voting tomorrow and accdg to a reliable source each congressman who votes for the bill will receive a huge sum of money. Please pray for the lawmakers who are still on the fence about this and pray that more pro-life people show up to show their support.
"Let us show our support for our anti-RH Congressmen: The RH bill will be voted on tom in the congress. Pro-life presence needs to be felt. GO TO CONGRESS TOM (MARCH 8, 2011). BE THERE AT 3:30-7:00pm. WEAR BLUE AND BRING MORE PEOPLE! "
Please pray.
Thank you.

PRAISE REPORT!!
This week has supposedly been de-listed by the President as a priority bill. That has not stopped the pro-RH people from trying to get voting accomplished at Congress.
Last week, they tried to do this on two consecutive days but the airconditioning system broke down and they had no choice but to postpone to this week.
Just a few hours ago we had another miracle. Various "little things" happened -- there was an argument about dress code, then problems with the audio, and finally after three lawmakers were given the chance to speak someone (I don't know who at this point) asked that the session be suspended, and NO ONE MADE A PEEP! so we're looking at possibly another week that pro-lifers can continue to work and spread the truth.
Also, reports are coming in from various places that whenever pro-lifers give talks, the audience comes in agreeing with the passage of the bill, and they go out at 80-100% agreement that it should not be passed.
At Congress the pro-RH people outnumbered the pro-lifers, but the pro-lifers came armed with Rosaries, holy water, and prayers from those of us far away. God sent his angels again!!
Will keep you posted, they say this will continue possibly every M-W until it's finally voted on. We need more time to keep on educating people on the truth and finally defeat this bill for good!
Praise God for His awesome miracles and providence!! Thank you for your prayers.

The thread has been an incredible read Stef! Trepidation and anxiety and then this blessed relief at the end! I'm praying now that the Philippines keep this one down and do not re-visit it!
