I've had tension headaches and more severe migraines for years, usually able to self-medicate with over the counter products. Over the last few moths they've gotten progressively worse, even getting the "thunderclap" ones that are very serious. I've had one since late Thursday / early Friday morning, and went in to the clinic this morning. I needed shots and medication. I also had blood pressure readings of 160 over 100 so they diagnosed me with hypertension and I have pills for that. I still have the migraine.
Will you please add your prayers to mine?
***********************************************
The migraine did not go away until Wednesday afternoon. I followed the dosing instructions on the medication to the letter. Midrin for headache - 2 every 4 hours as needed. I needed them. Propranolol 1 tablet twice per day for the BP.
I called the clinic yesterday morning (Thursday) to let the Doctor know that the Midrin really didn't work. He agreed and ordered a new prescription for me - Imitrex (generic is Sumatriptan.) Start with one tablet, take a second tablet after two hours if needed, do not exceed 2 tablets in a 24 hours period.
I took the first tablet at 2:30 pm. Within 3 minutes my forehead was on fire and felt like it was being scourred with sandpaper from the inside. I tried to lay down and lost my breath. I looked in the mirror and I was bright red and my neck was extremely swollen. I tried to call my neighbor but no answer. I called my clinic but all lines were busy.
I called 911 and told them I thought I was having a reaction to the medication.
The ambulance showed up along with a Deputy. The deputy stayed with my kids and played Snorta with them until my MIL could get here. (I'm really glad my house was clean.) The paramedics threw me in the ambulance and immediately gave me an Epi and raced me to the nearest emergency room.
At the hospital my BP was 217 over 102. They thought I was having a stroke.
I recovered with the help of massive amounts of Benadryl, Steroids, and I don't know what else. I know have a prescription for an Epi Pen. They sent me home in the evening and I've been trying to rest all night, but my mind is going 70 miles a minute.
I am really scared.
I'm trying to stay calm. I'm thinking about how much exercising and dieting I can do safely in order to quickly lose weight and get my bp lowered. Any advice?
I'm praying, but I really need some great prayer warriors to pray with me.

I'll definately be praying for you Paula
But be sure when the headache is past to get rechecked on the "hypertension".. being under stress (pain!!) can raise anyone's BP.
But the flip side.. hypertension could be contributing to the headache so it may be good to treat it while you still are fighting the headache.

Praying for relief, Paula. I can't hardly function with a "regular" headache so I feel much empathy for you.
