Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I hope this doesn't sound too whiny and selfish.

I came down with a killer cold two days ago. Please pray it doesn't turn into anything worse.

I took my children to a Confirmation Mass last night in another state - oh, how wonderful it was to 1) see my son and his friend hug each other after three years of not seeing each other and 2) watch 101 young people receive the Holy Spirit in this beautiful sacrament. My children and I had a great field trip this morning to a place I've wanted to visit for a long time.

The hard part is that I'm so stuffed up that I can barely sleep and I have many things to do in the next ten days. My daughter has an important (understatement!) audition next Friday, and we're participating in a mother-daughter camping event this weekend as well.

Please pray that the Good Lord will grant me the gift of healing so that I may be available to my family during this busy and tense pre-audition week. I really and truly need to be there for both of my children - dd for dance and school, and ds for certain school subjects we're committed to conquering together. (Hey...at least I can get the nasal sounds of the French language right...euhhh...)

Please pray, too, that none of my family gets what I have. My son is headed toward finals, my husband has been at a conference and will be catching up on work this next week, and I cannot imagine dancing while holding a tissue box, which is what dd will have to do if she gets my cold.

Thanks...I know this sounds self-centered, but it's really about being present to my family at a critical time.

P.S. - And please join me in praying for my son's friend Nick (through the intercession of his Confirmation patron, St. Bonaventure) and for all the young people who were confirmed last night!

oh, nancy, totally understand and i don't think you're being selfish either! i'm assuming you're taking loads of vitamins/supplements to combat this. garlic, C, B complex, zinc, if not, get some!! i find that when life is stressful and busy it's easier for me to come down with something. i really have to watch and make sure i'm taking care of myself. yeah, easier said than done. i'm praying, and hope you feel better in the morning, or at least SOON!!

Dear Nancy, praying for you and your family. You sound so busy and it is not selfish in asking our Lord for strength and health! Sending prayers your way!

Praying for you and your family, Nancy. You are not being whiny or selfish. The coincidence of a lot of *little* things really can be (and often is) very hard.

Peace,
Nancy
