Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Please join us in praying for dh and dds realtionship. They do have a good relationship, they like each other and can get along very well.

The problem is dh came into her life at 6 years old, and had never had any exposure to children, or much females for that matter. All the women he has known before us were less emotional, and often less talkative. Dd is a very prolific talker, and it drives him nuts sometimes. Put on top of that that guys aren't as good at seeing the "heart" matters, and that things are more cut and dry to them, which makes it hard for him to see the "whys" of the things she does. He struggles with trying not to be crabby or sarcastic when he gets overwhelmed by her complex "girlishness", and the normal behaviors of a 9yo. Some of this is what naturally comes out due to learned reactions to some difficult pains he suffered before, and some are what we naturally feel like reacting like to our kids at times. We are both growing though, through God's grace, in the realization that a parent can't react as they naturally feel, but have to learn to model for their children how they should act. We are especially working on this to model for her how to act to her younger siblings when she is frustrated. We know we need to nip the sarcastic or rude way of talking in the bud. Really, I know compared to most people it is not bad at all, but our standard is not them, our attitudes are to be held up to the standars of Christian Charity, true charity towards others. This is what we want to teach our children.

This is a hard one, it is easier to parent little 1 or 2 yos sometimes, you just change their diapers, and feed them and play silly games with them, and keep them out of physical danger. But, the older ones take so much more complex teaching and time sometimes. And they need the attention and talking and games, etc, etc.

So basically please pray with us that he will grow in his like/love for her, and be less annoyed by some of her normal kid ways. This is so important as she is growing up and needs that strong bond with her Daddy that girls need, and she looks up to him very much, and has really accepted her as her Daddy. He loves her, and is good to her he just struggles so often with an inborn feeling of annoyance at some of her ways. Please pray that the bond between them will grow somehow to be strong like it is with the children we have borne together.

St Joseph, Foster Father of Jesus, pray for us!

St. John Vianney(dh's patron), pray for us!

St. Therese of the Child Jesus(dd's favorite), pray for us!

St. Anthony of Padua, Miracle Worker, pray for us!

Our Lady, Mediatrix of All Graces, pray for us! Our

Lady of Altagracia, pray for us!

I will be praying for you, and your daughter and her daddy. My husband is very quiet and the children can talk his head off (!), but I think deep down he enjoys it!

He will really enjoy them and their love of life as things blossom. You are right to entrust all to St. Joseph....he is so good for families.

I wonder if he would be willing to read, "Strong Fathers, Strong Daughters" or if there is another good book about Fathers and Daughters he might read, to better understand daughters at this age?

We just ordered Bringing up Girls by Doctor Dobson, which dh has been waiting for for a few years now to come out. It is now out. Dr. Dobson does have a little we do not agree with at times, but he has much valuable advice. Dh respects him a lot and has been looking forward to this book hoping it will give him a better perspective on raising a girl, and what makes her tick, so to speak.

Thank you all for your prayers they mean the world to me(us).

I just saw the book the other day in the bookstore. I'll look forward to hearing what everyone has to say about it.
