Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I need to grow in patience and kindness as a mother. Please pray for me. I find that the more I work on these virtues the more ground I'm losing and the frustration level around here is getting kinda high. I would really appreciate the boost of your prayers!

It is said that some people in this world by the nature of their temperament have two heads and no heart. This describes me very well.

Be assured of my prayers for all of you as well. Thank you from the bottom of my...(gulp) heart! (It must be in there somewhere!)

Don't we all!!! I'll pray for you if you pray for me!

Really, though, my patience level goes way down when I don't get enough sleep. Do you think you are getting enough? What about your diet and excercise? When these three things are good, I'm good!! Hope that makes sense and isn't oversimplified. Bless you!

Amie,

I will pray for you. It is hard to grow in virtue...but be assured, that you are. Being a mother is the HARDEST job in the world, but as you know, it has eternal rewards!

Feel free to PM me if you'd like some one-on-one encouragement...You hang in there and just keep loving those kids.

I totally agree with, Erica.....but must add one more thing......the THING that makes the others work best: a daily rosary WITH the kids. When we start each day out with a rosary.........we get along SO MUCH better.......and I am SO MUCH a better mom............that it is almost palpable

when we get out of the habit........it is SO obvious...........and so, we can tell!!!

........and wondering just how much sleep and exercise Erica is getting these days with her growing belly.......bet it is more sleep than exercise!!

I just wanted to second what Chari said. Scripture tells us that patience and kindness are FRUITS of the Spirit. Doesn't that mean that they grow from a well-rooted, well-watered plant? I always fail when I just try harder to be more patient and kind. I am much more successful when I spend time nurturing and refreshing my soul. If I say Lauds first thing in the morning, spending some time in prayer and reading before I meet with my children, they seem all the more delightful and patience and kindness aren't as big a stretch as they would otherwise be.

Amie......I just realized you did not ask for advice......only prayers

Of my prayers you are assured.

......I do want to add kind of to what I said, and Michelle.......my days go nutty the same as usual......but as long as we pray our rosary daily.....the tolerance level for la vida loca is quite high.......

I told God just the other day: okay.....I have put You first ....now, the rest is just supposed to fall into place, right??

all I know.....is life is more peaceful, with our daily rosary

I will pray you can find peace, and patience!

now.....off to ski.....well, THEY ski....I am an official LODGE MOM this winter. I actually love it....so much time to myself, as I leave the wee one with his oldest sister

Amie,
I will pray for you. I daily find myself lacking what I need to handle this life.

Chari, thanks for the "unsolicited" advice! I think we can all benefit from that. I have a bad habit of "knowing" what needs to be done, thinking about it, and then letting it slip by undone. I know this life balances on our spiritual health, if we let ourselves become spiritually cool everything else goes downhill from there.

Let us all pray for each other to first and foremost have the diligance in our prayer life and the Faith that God will provide the rest.

Amen.

Thank you everyone for your prayers AND good advice. I felt the boost tangibly today as I plugged through. Perhaps I should share what got me started (baby is sleeping, whew!) My patience and kindness has been weakening at a record pace in the past month or so. I'm guessing God is calling me to rely on Him more and myself less. Go figure!

Well, after shouting and growling at my kids more and more I saw the need to pray harder and look for help. That is when ran across Fr. Robert J. Fox's tape about the Guardian Angels. Excellent! So I pray more throughout the day for guidance from my Angel. I try to be quiet more in my angry moments trying to hear the gentle lead my Angel tries to offer. This helps a lot.

After that I found some great recorded conferences from the Opus Sanctorum Angelorum and since I can't really afford to attend the upcoming spiritual reteats in my area at the moment (oy, tax season!) I decided to pick up a few of their CDs to have my spiritual retreat right in my own kitchen. The food is pretty good and the room and board is cozy!

I've had a grand time listening to Fr. Basil Nortz, ORC on "The Qualities of Love" Cd set. He speaks clearly about the virtues of patience and kindess. I am inspired! But, I'm also attacked! Fr. Faber says it himself, the more you seek and achieve sweet mediation on a holy idea, the more ground the evil one wants to recover so he doubles his efforts. Ack! So being the sinner I'm am, I've crumbled and been right back to impatient, grumpy mommy. Which is what lead me to ask for your prayers and offer mine for those of you in a similar situation.

So now that baby is not trying to eat the keyboard I can share my information!

Thank you, thank you for your prayers and understanding words of kindness. Be assured of my continued prayers for all us hopeful-cool-cucumbers on this list!

Oh, Amie,

We all need to be praying for one another ... we all go through this.

Isn't it interesting that spiritual battles seem to be coming to a head as Lent approaches? Our mother, the Church, is so wise ... she gives us seasons like Lent, anticipating that we will need the spiritual growth and renewal that such a season will precipitate.

This might be a good time to pray for what the Lord wants us to focus on for Lent ....

One year, I decided to give up complaining. (I wish I could say all complaints have gone away permanently, but ... sigh ... I guess that's why it's called a journey.) However, that Lent, I really became aware of just how much I complain, verbally or internally. Every time I let out a sigh, grumbled, or silently counted the cost of serving my family or others, I realized I was failing in my Lenten resolve. It made me aware of my attitudes in a new way, and it was truly an invigorating Lent for me.

I have gone back to that prayer: "Lord, let me serve without counting the cost" many times.

I'll pray for you and for all of us, and thanks for your prayers for me, too!

Just had another thought....

Don't let discouragement convince you of failure during Lent. I strongly believe that the devil is very active and hard at work during Lent ... we are vulnerable in several ways when we sacrifice and give up things we normally cling to. But, we are also strengthened immensely through those sacrifices.

(I think this goes along with my theory that we're rather vulnerable right after confession ... the devil is especially interested in souls that are actively striving for holiness ....)

Pray, pray, pray ... and maybe we can all be accountable to one another during Lent?

Amie, I'm praying for you. Pray for me as well. Karen E. thanks for your posts.
I confess that I am a complainer as well, and your lenton post inspired me.
Michelle, Erika and Chari made excellent points about sleep and prayers well. I find that I am good about praying on the spot for you ladies, but that as a whole I do far too much talking and reading about the important topic of prayer without actually praying enough! We do say the rosary as a family each day and I think that does help....even though some days I wonder what Mary and Jesus think when they look down upon our crazy chaotic circus rosary.
and back to that complaining and negativity bit...in the confessional the priest always stresses how we are to say something nice each day about the peolple or things we most complain about.
Let's all hold one another up and re-new our spiritual zeal to be the loving moms and wives we all so long to be!

When I don't get enough sleep, it because of too much T.V. - yuck - I need to think about giving that up for Lent. And, exercise...well, let's just say I've gained more weight with this baby than with the others and I still have about 8 weeks to go - yikes!!

This is such a great thread. I especially like the advice on the Rosary and prayer in general. I feel like you, Molly, in that I'm great at reading and thinking about what I'm supposed to do, but poor in executing.

I try to remember what I believe Alice said awhile back about smiling at her children when she passes them in the hall or talking to them...something like that. They are just little ones doing what children do and how precious they are in God's eyes. If we could only just remember that when we are feeling grouchy or tired. I try to remind myself why I actually homeschool my children in the first place and that makes it easier to be patient and kind with them.

Hang in there Amie! The "retreat" you did at home sounds wonderful!
