...for one of my children. He has to squeeze a whole high school year between now and September, when he'll be enrolled into the local high school. Please pray that we can not only survive, but can thrive in a loving, supportive (both ways) environment.
He took a major slide backward last year. He decided we made him work too hard and just stubbornly refused to do his work. Therefore, it took him 1.5 years to complete 9th grade. We keep butting heads and we don't seem to be able to reach each other. He has a terrible attitude about school but he committed to completing a year's worth of school in the 28 weeks (counting 2 weeks off for Easter and one week off over his birthday, during which time the new baby will be born as well) we have left before September. He'll have to work hard, document how much time his work takes, and complete work over several weekends to accomplish his goal. It's got to be HIS effort if it is HIS goal, right? I mean, I intend to be there to facilitate, but I don't think a 10th grader needs hand-holding ... am I right? BUT, neither can I put forth the time and effort and then let him sink back into 10th grade. Ugh!
Anyway, please pray that this happens without too much stress or (the other end of the spectrum) me just completely giving up on him. He's a stressor on our lives every day. It wears on other relationships within the family. I need that to let up. I need for him to understand us and be sensitive to that.

Praying...my sweet son won't be graduating on time this year. Great child, but IS 17, and has chosen to goof around instead. Hates homework. But, I think a lot of it is maturity, and they are pulled so much from all the distractions. His only weakness is school...which I told him, of course, to get his life plan in order. I homeschooled him too late...took him out half way through junior year, and he was already so far behind in public school. Too many distractions for him.
Anyways, there does come a time, I believe, that they are also held accountable for their choices. I cannot "make" my nearly 18 year old,6 foot, 250 pound child "do" school...I can guide him, and assume he was raised with great values. But, a lot of it has to do with responsibility and maturity. He has "chosen" to not keep up with school, so he doesn't get to drive, etc.
Funny, last night we went walking together, and he was expressing his frustration about life in general, and about money, and moving out. I told him, that all this was a normal part of growing up, being independent and finding your way. "Just remember, you need to find some path to support a family if that is the vocation you choose". So, inside I was thinking, "Are you kidding me? Get your behind together and get going in life!!!" But, we know that can backfire.
So, I tend to ramble, but I was just letting you know, that God has an eye on him, and that I will be praying for him and you in a special way. I have faith they will find their path.

Praying, Tina. We had to cram a year of physical science into that same time period because of high school requirements (my older two are at public school this year). It's certainly hard (especially when you're talking about several subjects) and requires a lot of commitment from your son, but I bet he can do it. What has helped mine develop a better attitude is the reminder that the decisions that they make now about school will affect them later (summer school, college options, etc). It's not going to "matter" to me because I already have a vocation and a life, and the decisions that they make are *theirs.* And that even if that doesn't seem important now, it will later and they might kick themselves once it's too late. These teenage years are hard. Personality and maturity have so much to do with it too. Pray lots and let God work!

Praying for your son and your peace. My two teens became the same way, and have chosen to leave me and go and live with my mother... 15 yo is in public school, failing Algebra because he sees it as "worthless to learn" and 16 yo is floundering around doing basically nothing...
I know that abundant good seeds were planted the first 12 years of their life and that comforts me. May you trust in God that HE will make the good seeds you have planted grow and blossom at the right time.

Tina,
Praying for you. It sounds like a very similar situation to the one I had with my son a couple of years ago.
Big hugs to you! These boys can be draining especially when we are trying to maintain peace and care for all our other children, not to mention growing a new baby!
