This another "small compared to other people's" problem but it is just a mounting stress sort of thing.
Our cat has fleas. Cat fleas apparently reproduce quickly and like people too, so since we see them in other places and occasionally on people (especially on my husband if he goes down to the basement, where fortunately the rest of us rarely spend any time,) it is not enough to get them off the cat. We are going to have to use some stuff that requires all of us, including the total homebody of a cat, to leave the house for hours. We'll be treating the cat with a pill, turning off the power to things like our fridge (hoping to fit everything that needs to be in the freezer,) covering certain things, packing into the car including the cat in a carrier after 6 years, being gone doing I don't know what, having my husband open windows to air the place out and then bring the cat back after it has for some time, and then being gone some more as extra caution against the flea killing substance.
Please pray that this works out.

Praying...and suggesting you repeat this process in two weeks to kill off any newly-hatched fleas that escape round one.
We have been through this process a few times ourselves. It's not fun.

I have a dear friend on these boards that struggled for a long time to get rid of fleas from their dog...she had an awful time of it!!! It was a lesson in persistence for that family because it took some time to get rid of all of them! So, I know from their experience that fleas are no small problem! Praying you are able to resolve this!!!!

Been there! We homestead, and last year was a nightmare for fleas. Our dogs are outside dogs, but the fleas still got in the house. Old wood farmhouse floorboards are breeding grounds for them, as are carpets, in between walls, etc.
We actually got rid of them with salt. I took 6 large containers of salt and emptied them all over the floor and brushed it in every nook and cranny I could find. We crunched around the house for days, but it worked - and we didn't use chemicals. We also did the old lightbulb and pie pan trick, which was very satisfying to watch!
We did spray outside where the dogs were, and the merchant of the spray said that if you spray in the house in the fall, you need to do it again in about March. Apparently they lay one last batch of eggs that overwinter and wait til spring to hatch. (we're in the south, so if you are in a cooler climate maybe April would be a good time to respray for you)
Just a suggestion, in case the little buggers have plans for next spring!

Thanks everyone. The procedure went OK and seems to have been generally effective, although we have still seen a few since then. As Nancy said, they may be newly hatched. But I don't think it will be difficult to get rid of them.

Praying that you can rid your house completely, what a nuisance!
We got rid of ours by putting a pan of water on the floor underneath a night light. The fleas are attracted to the light and hop into the water. It's amazing how many you catch!!
