Please pray for our family...I know this is minor compared to a lot on the prayer forum but praying for quick healing and the staving off of sickness for our children that are not sick and for my husband who struggles with asthma and our son who struggles with allergies.
Please pray that all are healthy for Saturday. (They have something important to do.)
Thank you!

We've had this for almost three weeks. I will be praying for your family.

I don't want to freak anyone out, but our weeks (and weeks!) long cough turned out to be whooping cough. Only one person in our sounded close to the classical sound, but I believe we all had/have it.
Except for infants and passing it on to others (you are no longer contagious after 3 weeks), there is no need for treatment. I have lots of links about it if anyone is interested.

O Jen - you are terrifying me. Anna started coughing yesterday - she is not acting sick, is nursing fine - but the one thing I remember from Abby having the whooping cough is the ER doctor saying that it is not usual for babies to cough. I could not even sleep last night - was trying to figure out my baby girl's cough. I have such dreadful memories of my oldest dd being in Children's Hospital on a ventilator for 3 weeks.
Should I be worrying if Anna is still nursing, no fever and not acting sick?

Yes, whooping cough went through Australia, one Aus lady from these boards contracted it along with her big family, at the end of her pregnancy!
Whooping cough is cyclic and so it stands to reason that in the US this is going to be a problem in this season.
Marilyn, praying that you don't have to worry about this in your household!
Mari, how are you all doing now?

Marilyn, I just wanted to come back and say that there were lots of people dealing with viruses where coughing was a major component, without it being whooping cough.

So sorry I didn't mean to worry you, Marilyn.
Has she had any cold symptoms lately - like in the last 1 - 14 days? (Possible: congestion; sore throat; mild fever) That is hard to tell with little ones too, I know.
Has anyone else had a long term cough around you? It's a different kind of cough - not a tickle in the throat so much as a spasm in the chest.
The biggest problem is that by the time the test comes back positive, it is too late for an antibiotic to do any good. If you give it very early, then it can help.
And I do want to echo what Anne said about coughs - a few years ago I coughed for weeks but it wasn't whooping cough.
Praying!!

Notice too that Ruth has had the same symptoms as your family for weeks - and most of her kids have had whooping cough so they are immune.

Really?? Up until what age? My 5 month old has been coughing. She is on antibiotics now, but the doctor didn't mention whooping cough.
We are still going through what has been 3 weeks of sickness I will pray for your families health!

Not sure - my dd who had pertussis was only one month old. I did speak to my pediatrican today who calmed me down - there is an outbreak of whooping cough in the US - but he did say that 3 month babies can get a dry cough - also to just watch it to make sure it does not develop further.
BTW - sorry for hijacking this thread!

Jen - we continue to pray for the babies.
Thanks for the info too. I did call my ped. - because I know that treatment early can be a lifesaver - but he told me not to worry for now. He did say that it is VERY difficult to diagnose pertussis in infants that have not had the full dose of vaccine (we actually do this vaccine - but Anna has only had her 2m shot) - he also knows I hate to do antibiotics unnecessarily - I told him I would do whatever, but he said to just watch.
