Hi Friends,
We go today to the university hospital to see a neurosurgeon to discuss options for my husband's several herniated discs.....he needs surgery,and we are hoping this facility can do minimally invasive surgery. Tomorrow, we travel to the same hospital again to talk to Lily's doctor about her jaw distraction. We have pending--oldest son's wisdom teeth removal...and another consult with youngest ds's orthodontist soon...who told me last week that although ds desperately needs a palate expander, it will likely pull apart the cleft repairs he has already had twice , so he wants to talk to the cleft team first. It gets very complicated, because this kiddo has the same airway issues Lily does, and cleft surgery means airway restriction, which means he might need jaw distraction...again.
I am overwhelmed.
I have learned, having a very medically intense family that I am on a "Need to Know" basis with God. Right now, I don't "Need to Know" how this is all going to work out....but honestly, I feel like I am getting ready to run a marathon this Fall and Winter, and I forgot my running shoes and haven't trained past a 5K. Please pray that I will remember it is okay that Jesus is "asleep in my boat", and not to panic through all of this....but especially pray for healing, safety, and peace for our family...and God's Glory be seen in all of this!
I hold you all dear to my heart and close in my prayers.
UPDATE!--Woohooo!!!! We had good news. My dear husband still needs surgery on his neck, but thank God for big university teaching hospitals only three hours away!!  The doc said today he would do minimally invasive surgery vs. the very intensive, long recovery fusion surgery the doc in our small town said dh needed..So, other than having to travel a long distance, it is so worth it!! The other surgeon's approach would have ment dh couldn't drive for six weeks...which meant I was going to have to drive him for a month (an hour each way) to work. Today's doc said dh would only be off work for a week or two....can drive after two weeks. Oh My....we were swooning when we walked out of there, my dh commented, "I feel like we just had a big debt relieved." 
So, one down, one to go...tomorrow is the biggie....Lily's surgery is complicated...but we'll walk that path when we get there.
Right now, I need to run one of the younger ds's to the urgent care for what looks like pink eye......good grief, the peds hospital would kick us out tomorrow if I walked in with his glowing red eye without drops going, or some explaination.

UPDATE #2--Everything went really well. I prayed that if we were suppose to go through with this that we would have a sense of peace, and indeed, talking to the surgeon, my dh and I both had a sense of peace and resolution to get Lily's surgery done ASAP. There were several positives to the way this particular surgeon will be lengthening her jaw, which at first, sounded pretty scary compared to our ds's jaw distraction four years ago. Instead of having her distractors on the inside of her jaw, (like ds's) these will be mostly on the outside of her jaw(think metal halo on each side of little tiny cute face), which seemed pretty awful to us. They go in and cut through her lower jaw bone on both side, and put in these distractors BUT, they only stay in eight weeks or so compared to ds's 14 weeks, and the surgery to take them out is a quick day surgery, with less trauma to take the distractors off. AND...they are going to repair her cleft again, at the same time...he said she'll feel like she's been hit by a truck...but might as well get this all done at once. Poor girl. The best news is--when this is all done, sometime around Christmas or New Year...we can start working on getting her trach out. How Cool Is THAT??!!
Now...I feel the need to clean like crazy and get my life in order before my dh's surgery in Sept, and Lily's in November.
Thank God for good doctors, medical centers, and friends like you!! We are thankful for your prayers!!
Tomorrow we celebrate Miss Lily's Second Birthday!!! Woohoo!!!

Praying! In times like these I have to remember not to look past even the present moment as far as grace is concerned. Am I surviving this very minute? OK then. When I look forward even a few hours sometimes, all is lost (in my mind). Many hugs and prayers for strength and grace to get through the next few months, and for speedy healing and the best doctors ever.

You know, Amy brings up such a good point...and that is that God supplies grace for the present moment only. Much like the manna in the desert, He is generous with the day's needs. When we approach Him in the Our Father we ask for our "our daily bread." He does not supply grace for the days and weeks to come...until we get there, and we can trust that He will generously supply when we arrive in those moments! You know that though...cause you're in the "Need to Know" zone!
No worries, 4ladsmom! God has your running shoes and we'll run the marathon with you, chugging and puffing all the way!!!!
The last few months for me have been dizzying in terms of medical appointments here and for my family as well. It all seems to hit at once! I don't understand why Our Dear Lord has such confidence in our ability to multi-task suffering and medical challenges...I definitely don't understand why He places confidence in me...but I trust. That's about all I can do...trust! Keep trusting! He will provide all the daily training for your marathon!
You have such a beautiful and cheerful spirit and I always joy in reading your thoughts! I'll be praying and running beside you!
