Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Dear Ladies,
As we are approaching the first Sunday this week-end coming, I thought to offer a little reminder for any ladies who would like to unite their prayers with us over at Spiritual Motherhood for Priests.

We thought it would be fitting to receive & offer Holy Communion on the 1st Sundays of the month as the Mothers of Lu did together. They offered up their Holy Communions on the first Sundays of the month, and after Mass offered this simple prayer together for vocations to the priesthood,

"O God, grant that one of my sons may become a priest! I myself want to live as a good Christian and want to guide my children always to do what is right, so that I may recieve the grace, o God, to be allowed to give you a holy priest! Amen."

This is an awesome story, an inspiration of what simple consistent prayer can achieve. It’s on page 18 of the booklet Adoration, Reparation, Spiritual Motherhood for Priests and worth a read before this Sunday, if you can. It will certainly inspire you as it did us. You can download the booklet from the SM blog.

The first Sundays seemed fitting as it’s an easy reminder and can be linked to other first of the month devotions and indulgences. This is helpful to busy Mothers who have lots of things on their minds; we can certainly relate to this!

We are also approaching the First Thursday of August through which the Church has offered plenary indulgences if Mass, Communion, Adoration (if possible) is offered for the priest’s of the Church. Any prayers can be said in honour to “Jesus Christ, supreme and eternal Priest” and in honour of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
We’ll post more about that closer to next Thursday.

Thank you,
God Bless to you all
Chemai

Thank you, Chemai for posting this....

Just this morning at Mass I got this idea that we could each have one Mass said once a Month for priests.....

Anyone want to commit?

Hi Maria,

Yes that's a great idea! I’m in. We could all offer our First Sundays as the woman of Lu did for starters, and any others we could certainly do individually.

I love the idea of having one Mass a month that we could all offer up for Priests, that unifies our prayers all on the same day. And the First Thursday idea is a beautiful one given to us by the Church, although not all ladies can get to Mass on a week day but we can all get to Mass on a Sunday, (if anyone can’t get to Mass on a Thursday they can still pray and perform a Spiritual Communion uniting any prayers for priests, the priesthood and vocations receiving a partial indulgence).

However any Mass any time of the Month would be a great offering. We could keep a list in the side bar over at Sm blog of Mass's offered. - Leave that one with me.

God Bless you
Chemai

This is a lovely and inspired undertaking, Chemai! I love the idea of uniting prayers for our priests on the first Sunday of the month!

Thank you.
Yes, me too Jennifer. The first Sundays was inspired by the Mother's from the Italian village of Lu. Great Story, so inspiring (as the whole booklet is)!

We will be making a collection of prayers for priests and the priesthood over at SM for the First Sundays and Thursdays. Hoping to make it easier for ladies to prepare if they would like.

Here's just an excerpt from the story:

"Under the direction of their parish priest, Msgr. Alessandro Canora, they gathered every Tuesday for adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, asking the Lord for vocations. They received Holy Communion on the first Sunday of every month with the same intention. After Mass, all the mothers prayed a particular prayer together imploring for vocations to the priesthood.

Through the trusting prayer of these mothers and the openness of the other parents, an atmosphere of deep joy and Christian piety developed in the families, making it much easier for the children to recognize their vocations."

Did the Lord not say, “Many are called, but few are chosen” (Mt 22:14)? In other words, many are called, but only a few respond to that call. No one expected that God would hear the prayers of these mothers in such an astounding way. From the tiny village of Lu came 323 vocations!: 152 priests (diocesan and religious), and 171 nuns belonging to 41 different congregations. As many as three or four vocations came from some of these families"

Just amazing!

God Bless
Chemai

Maria, that is a lovely idea, how were you envisioning that? We make a list and take in turns in offering a Mass? Would we do it through our own parishes or maybe through a common organization like Aid to the Church in Need?

I was thinking that people could just do what was easiest for them or whatever their preference....so if folks wanted to do their parish or support an organization, they could do that.... ....

My plan is to keep it simple.
