You ladies are wonderful, and I know you pray and the Lord listens.
Please pray for us for wisdom and guidance as we seek to have my husband adopt our first daughter. I do not know the ins and outs of the laws, and what happens with interstate law. Her biological father has never seen her,nor had contact, is not on the birth cert., but had expressed the desire to see her at one time years ago, but never actually made the effort to do anything about it, or support her. But, I do know that we do have to terminate the paternal rights, which if a miracle happens, he will agree to. Please pray!!!!!!
Please pray that we find a morally decent lawyer for some advice. And that we can afford to do this. We feel very strongly that we need to. She very much loves my husband and wants to have him legally called her Dad and share the same last name as the rest of us. And please pray for peace and strength as we face a very difficult past.
If anyone has advice, if you've been through this, I would appreciate it.
Thank you all! And may God reward you for your faithfulness!
Another part of this which I am concerned about is if they have to do a home study? We live simply and are trying to improve our home as finances and time taken from family time permit. Which other homeschoolers can understand. But govt. workers are not always so forgiving of the choice to homeschool and live on one income. I know our house looks pretty run down, it is a mobile home from the 70s, and needs some improvements. It doesn't usually bother me because I know eventually we'll get things fixed, and my husband's time is more valuable to all of us, than worrying how "beautiful" it all looks. I've heard that sometimes they'll waive the home study? So please pray for this angle, too. Thank you!

You do know that she may use any last name she wishes? the most you might have to do is put it on her social security card as an alias.
So just in case you find a road block.. or you don't want to wait.. she can use her dad's last name same as everyone else

Praying for you all! We did this about 11 years ago. Fortunately for us, it went off without a hitch. We had a similar situation, but we couldn't find the bio dad, so we had to advertise and he never responded.
It really wasn't very expensive and didn't take long. I will pray that it all goes as smoothly for you. I know how important it is.
