Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I'm phoning round for info/prospectuses for schools today, with a very heavy heart. DH and I feel DS 5yo is "impossible" to home educate, for me at least - he is such an angry, exhausting, oppositional child, and it is tearing apart our relationship which needs to be very nurturing and damaging his sister's chance to have learning/playing time with me.

We may get a place at a catholic school for him (which would be free), or there are a couple of fee paying options we could try (Dh thinks we can afford it possibly, if we severely restrict other spending) of a stiener school and a private Catholic school.

DS is not happy as he hates the idea of school. I feel a failure and we have a lot of discerning and praying to do. Prayers are very much appreciated, for God to lead on this and us to find teh right way forward either the right school or a new way to work at home.

Dear Lucy,

My first thought was - what does your curriculum look like for your 5 year old? Maybe he isn't ready and just needs more stories and baking and art projects or playing....

We will pray. I understand your feelings, too!

Hang in there!

Lucy,
I will of course pray for your discernment, and that in all things, God's will be done here.

I was wondering like Maria...could it be that your little man is just looking for less structure, more fun and relaxation to his days with gentle picture books, playing outside, painting on the sidewalk with water, counting the bumblebees that fly past, pressing and molding clay or beeswax, reading favorite books... Could there be some discipline/routine/habit issues that need to be addressed? I'm promise I'm not trying to trivialize this decision at all!!! I really do understand the heaviness when a child is not responding and you feel you've tried everything. Certain ages seem to spark opposition.

Well, enough of me wondering out loud. I hope you're not offended. I can sense the great heaviness in your heart over this decision. Know that I am praying as you and your dh seek to know what is best for your son.

Lucy I'm praying for that discernment process, that God's will be done and the best result for your son and you both will happen.
